Snowbirds looking for possible access to healthcare out of network.
 

We are seasonal residents that have healthcare a provider our northern hometown. We are not yet Medicare eligible but are looking to be proactive about finding care if needed during the pandemic. Does anyone have advice about seeking healthcare services (other than the ER services)?

There are lots of Urgent Care facilities in and around The Villages. Many people use them for routine medical issues.

Anyway, why haven't you called the insurance company that pays your medical bills up north? Ask them to provide a list of covered providers/hospitals/facilites near ZIP Code 32162.

Or are you asking where to get medical care on a cash basis?

If you are not on Medicare, and have private insurance, especially a PPO plan, you should be ok to use any of the healthcare services in the area. If you have an HMO or other type of plan, I would consult with Villages Health first.

Do NOT use the ER for your health-care needs. Urgent care as someone else suggested for more immediate needs. IF you go to the ER and you're not in a big distress, they will triage you---possibly treat you and send you home. There are several U.C. facilities sprinkled throughout The Villages.

Urgent care is probably your only choice, any primary care doctor is going to want to schedule an initial visit to get records go over your meds, etc. we have done this 2 or 3 times with a 2 to 3 month leadtime each time. Then you get to schedule your first real appointment with 2 week or more lead time. Hope you find a solution that workd for you.
