I’ve noticed that some of my neighbors have placed small American flags around the perimeter of their front lawn much as they do for the Fourth of July and Memorial Day. This is March so I am not aware of any National holidays. Am I missing something?

Velvet 03-25-2020 06:47 PM

God bless America?

I think they're doing it as a sign of (long needed) solidarity in a crisis, much like after 9/11.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to see some of THAT on forums, esp ToTV. Too many hostile, angry, and sometimes know-it-all responses.

I hope others don't consider this one...one of those.

Not to worry, some jerk will turn him in

I was just curious why a few neighbors were doing it. I don’t have a problem with Old Glory waving. Why would I ?

Old Glory ... long may it wave

OrangeBlossomBaby 03-25-2020 09:45 PM

As long as no one feels like they're being shamed into doing it too, I have no problem with American flags being flown respectfully. I do tend to cringe when the stick flags are low enough that the flag itself is touching the ground.

It's the new way to celebrate having enough toilet rolls to last the course!

dewilson58 03-26-2020 05:28 AM

Jus proud of the USA and our people.

Should be patriotic everyday.

davem4616 03-26-2020 06:37 AM

a couple of neighbors on the street behind us have placed those little American flags along the front boundary of their property

they did confirm that they are doing it to show support for America

A good friend of mine lined his property with small American flags. I, too, have a flag pole on my property. I asked him what was going. He felt it was important to show support for America at this time of need in our country. Its being patriotic regardless of party affiliation. In turn, I, too added small flags on my property. This is the time to show unity just like immediately following 9-1-1.

More helpful to send money to organizations helping needy people at this time.

Just showing we/they are America Strong during this crisis.

La lamy 03-26-2020 07:13 AM

Just curious... Would anybody be offended if I added a Canadian flag to the US one on my villa's lawn? I personally love both countries and love to see us as happy neighbours.

ts12755 03-26-2020 07:16 AM

Just the American Spirit and patriotism building during these rough times... America is pulling together as one family.

Rr23070 03-26-2020 07:17 AM

I Proudly fly my flag everyday, always have, always will.

TooColdNJ 03-26-2020 07:20 AM

Correct. Gilchrist East. Americans together during this crisis.

Mohawksin 03-26-2020 07:20 AM

Why not ask them?

sdeikenberry 03-26-2020 07:32 AM

Maybe an attempt to keep dogs off their lawns now that dog parks are closed???

crc19188 03-26-2020 07:49 AM

How about putting out some crosses to let God know we need him back in our lives. If you do not want one out don't put one. Then when this is over we could try to be nice to everyone as we are doing now everyday instead of being in a big hurry to go nowhere. God will get us through this if we ask for his forgiveness and his help. This is only my opinion for I am a sinner also because I was born into this world. Please think about it.

Byte1 03-26-2020 08:10 AM

Christmas in March?

I've seen a few homes dec'd out in Christmas decorations. When I mentioned it to someone, they replied that some folks are trying to bring hope and comfort to those that are really stressed at this time. In my opinion, that's a nice thought on their part.

rjsantos592 03-26-2020 08:17 AM

When is it the wrong time of the year to display an American flag?

I and maybe others suggested on Facebook to fly our flags to show that we are in this together. Do it if you can. Thanks

You are correct:
March 29

National Vietnam War Veterans Day is observed every year on March 29 and is a way to thank and honor our nation's Vietnam veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice.

That always bothers me as well. I know that everyone that does this is well meaning, but I would like to see them buy flags with longer sticks.

DrHitch 03-26-2020 08:29 AM

Mystified that original poster isn't watching ne s

The original poster didn't see the news last week when the President of the United States SPECIFICALLY suggested that everyone should fly the US flag as a solidarity symbol during the Coronavirus crisis??

Flying one or more US flags (and the POW flag) is 100% legal (lit at night)....

Amen to unity and mutual help and encouragement. It's much needed in a time like this.

beckyallen 03-26-2020 08:38 AM

It was Medal of Honor Day.

Bill32 03-26-2020 08:40 AM

I, for one, would welcome it. I am a US Navy vet who served part of my time in Canada, Vietnam, and around the world. Canadians are, in my opinion, probably the best friends we have in today's world. I would appreciate the show of solidarity at a time when we all can use a friend and ally. God bless both our countries during this crisis.

chrisinva 03-26-2020 10:00 AM

yep!

lwmilo 03-26-2020 10:05 AM

Di,
The American flags posted by your neighbors could be sign of appreciation or gratitude for the living Vietnam Veterans. On the 29th of March, Vietnam Vets will be celebrating the day of Welcome Home from Vietnam, a celebration day we didn't get coming home in the late sixties, early seventies.
