Trick or Treat in The Villages

The grandchildren, age 7, may come down for a visit in Oct. I am wondering if people do the trick or treat thing, or does The Village have activities for adults and children to take the place of trick or treat.

No house-to-house trick or treating allowed. However, the stores in the squares have trick or treating. The little ones seems to have fun going store to store then hanging around the squares dancing with grandparents.

Enough said, thanks that answers my question.

can the accompanying grandparents go in costume too, maybe stopping for free beverages at the watering holes?

I would think it would depend on the costumes. :pepper2::pepper2:

At the New Covenant Methodist church down by Crispers, there is a small festival and Villagers line up in their golf carts in the parking lot and hand out candy to the kids. The kids go from cart to cart - it's really fun. I've done it for 2 or 3 years now. I think the trick or treating starts around 5:30 or 6, so it is still light. Plan on that - it's fun and safe!! I'll post again when it gets closer.

It does sound like a fun idea. I think they would like that, and my wife would enjoy sitting in the cart giving out candy to the other kids. She always enjoyed having the kids come to the door in costumes, while I cringed in the living room.

I think I'll go as an old bald guy!! The money I save on the costume I will donate to happy hour.

Buy the kids bags of candy and call it a day. ;)

TWEETY! Where's the fun in that????

Dressing up is such a fun thing and being with grandparents makes it twice as nice. I will miss the pirates and princesses coming to my door.

In the good old days The Villages actually had trick or treat at Spanish Springs, a Christmas Parade every year and much more. I even remember PBA Bowling Tournments with gold lanes set up on the square for the finals. The Villages was part of the LGPA tour.

Iacocca To Ride E-bike In Parade ( I actually got to watch him ride his Electric Bike down Main Street at Spanish Springs)

When I think of all the things that were part of The Villages in the past, I realize how different The Villages is today compared to 5-10 years ago. Do not get me wrong I still love The Villages and think it is the best retirement community in the USA. Just interesting to think of The Villages today compared to just a few years ago.

Anyone else have some memories to share?

When I was in TV last Halloween, I did see a few parents and grandparents in costumes with the little ones in tow. It was fun seeing the kids at the squares dressed for trick-or-treat.

Gatorfan, who organized the trick-or-treats on the squares in the good-old-days? I'm wonder if a club in TV could pick it back up-- and make it even better than it was in the good old days?

I'm wondering why door to door isn't permitted. Wouldn't it be a hoot if a tradition began where we adults dressed up and went door to door, maybe to collect coins for a specific charity or some such worthy cause.

Does anybody know, or wish to hazard a guess, as to why Halloween trick or treating is off the books? I'm guessing that maybe it violates the "no solicitation" rule.

Mikeod 07-21-2010 09:58 AM

But where does it end?

Let's say you allow village residents to trick or treat for a "worthy" cause on Halloween. How do you prevent villagers who belong to any "worthy" charity from soliciting door to door? Do you make a list of "approved" charities that can solicit? I think the better answer is to have events at the squares to fill the need to dress up and celebrate on Halloween.

:agree: :agree: :agree: I like my peace and quiet on Halloween. Besides don't most of the clubs around here have some kind of halloween party?
