Granite countertops

We purchased a home with granite countertops and don't care for the color. Any suggestions that work in lieu of having them replaced?

Buy nice place mats. But, seriously, no.

I understand how you feel. I think most granite countertops are ugly.

Just got prices on replacing the "high definition" .countertops. You are looking at $8-10,000. Do they look any better now?

What you have asked about is exactly why I have always thought the real estate advice that granite counter tops help to sell a house is not always the best advice. It does not take into consideration that choices of granite are completely individual and highly varied.

With granite, beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder. Same with backsplashes. And both are a pain and an expense to change.

Maybe, for now, you can accessorize or change the paint in the kitchen or do something else minor to draw the eye away from that granite you don’t like. Good luck.

If you are worried about resale, refrain from personalizing too much in any house. We will die here so, we went away from traditional Fl schemes-dark granite & coffee cabinets--only problem with granite is, its cold, problem solved with small pet heaters which we put under plates, to stop meals from chilling down too fast--got them from Chewy

Genius!

That granite would be a sturdy base for whatever Formica laminate you would like to cover it with. ;)

No. Other than having them replaced with a countertop you like. I love our granite countertops. It's like anything else, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Well, I'm sorry you've found yourself in this position If you decide to have them removed and replaced I beg you not to have Wildwood Kitchen and Bath do the work. Please.

Even though I've liked ours, I found if you repeatedly spill enough red wine on them without a quick clean-up, they do change color.

Yes. You can have the color changed with stone dyes. Not a do-it-yourself project for most people, but much cheaper than replacement. Look here and then on YouTube:
Colored Dye for Use on Granite, and Other Natural Stone Materials

If you decide to replace, I would recommend quartz. Much easier to maintain and care for.

1 - turn the lights off and eat by candlelight, you won't notice it

2 - eat at the dining room table and sit in a chair that will have you looking away from the counter tops

3 - get into therapy and rid yourself of this color/pattern disorder (might be less costly to just replace the counter top though)

4 - lastly...take a sledge hammer to it and see if you can replace it under your homeowners policy (check your policy 1st though)

greenflash245 04-03-2020 06:50 AM

replace is the only answer
