Lots that back up to neighborhood rec. centers?

Has anyone purchased lots that back up to neighborhood rec. centers? Just thought it would be good for privacy. Any pros or cons, any of your thoughts would help or experience you have had. Thanks

We do. We back up to Bonita Pool Rec Center. We LOVE it. It is dark at night behind us and since it is a 30 yr and up pool, very quiet. Matter of fact it is so quiet when people are playing shuffle board, you can hear them slide. Also remember they close at dusk so another reason no nightly noise.

I agree with ArmyGuy!

Very quiet in the evenings. Daytime, however, there is continuous pickleball play, music from the pools, pool organized activities (water aerobics, for example) you will hear the instructors. Despite this daytime activity, still worth considering.

We do and we love it. Pretty, PRETTY, view out the back to the lovely palms and structures at Odell. We just zip out the back to the pool and our back yard has a lovely half wall in stacked stone with bushes and grasses that give us privacy and are beautiful too. We paid extra for the lot and think we are really lucky.

Thanks, for your quick response. I thought neighborhood pools did not have water sports, music etc.? My impression is more like Army guy, and Gracie.
Thanks, and any other info would be appreciated.

I would think that satisfaction on lots backing up to neighborhood rec centers would depend on the indivdual(s).

To some the sound of trains in the distance might be annoying and to others it's not so bad. It would be the same with rec center sounds.

The constant ping ping ping from the Pickleball would be the most annoying thing for me...and I play pickleball. But to wake up practically every morning to that sound and then all morning it can get annoying. Everything else is positive.

No water aerobics at neighborhood pools, just at regional ones. The pickleball courts are a good distance away from us, but we can hear the children in the pool. Just the shuffleboard folks and the bocce people. We feel like those games are a huge plus, just steps away and handy when we have company or the grands.

I am impressed that we have lived here for two years, the Odell center is two years old, and they have painted the structures already.( The shelter house and shade structures for shuffleboard) They also replaced two palms and four oaks and have washed the stone wall twice.

The rec center is a very good neighbor indeed and we have the benefit of the pool steps away, and don't have to take care of it.

For me it would be a question of are you an early riser? Or do you like to sleep in? Remember those gas carts and people and noise will be there at around 7:00 AM and stick around until 9:00 PM. The positives have all been noted, but also consider these items. As with everything else there are pro's and con's.

I agree. I would think having the pool and other amenities so close would be a huge plus. If it adds to the aesthetics of your property, and you have enough privacy screening to suit you, that would also be a plus.

Noise could be a negative. I've heard many people consider the noise from pickle ball, in particular, to be annoying.

One more thing I would consider, for what it is worth. Anytime your neighbor is anything other than residential, it seems wise to consider how useage of the property might evolve. Community needs and wants change. Communal properties exist to serve those needs and wants.

I am reminded of earlier TOTV threads about living near the Country Clubs in TV. Some that didn't previously now offer live nightly outdoor entertainment until 10 p.m. or later. There has been debate about whether the commercial needs of the property and the communal needs of its TV constituents trump impacts to few affected homeowners, or vise versa.

So, if it seems fine now, great. If water aerobics or later evening (or earlier morning) activities were added to better serve community interests, consider how much that might tip the balance of positive vs. negative.

Best wishes, tsew22. I hope you find a slice of TV paradise that's just right for you!

Pickle Ball ping at 7am

Just keep that in mind. Too noisey for me. I live across the valley from Odell in Amelia. In the quiet morning I can faintly hear the ping. No problem from my distance but I wouldn't want it in my back yard. I love playing pickle ball. too.
Depending on your location to the parking lot you will also here the gas carts as they come and go plus all the hi yall geetings. The ocassoinal hoot or hollering from pickleres, and the other outdoor games played at rec. centeres. This is Floridas friendliest home town don't ya know. This is certainly not a criticism just the noise to expect. In fact its a compliment on how active we all are.

Not completely on subject, but a memory many will think fun, I hope!

When I came down one December while my house was being built, having run out of Lifestyle perks, I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express. The first morning I woke up hearing a weird noise that I was sure was something dripping. I searched and searched the bathroom, then realized that the noise was coming from the outdoors.

Ah ha! Pickleballers were out doing their thing as early as oh-dark-thirty at La Hacienda. I'd never heard the ping-ping before! Makes me glad that I'm out of ear-shot from the rec centers!

Hi Everyone, Thanks for the information and your thoughts, so helpful.
I was talking about Allure Loop in Bottonwood. Behind the Buttonwood Neighborhood pool. I did not think this was a family pool, nor that there is pickleball there. Wouldn't pickle ball and family pool be at Fishhawk village, or Seabreeze?

Russ_Boston 07-21-2010 07:11 PM

Yes Buttonwood pool is over 30 with no pickleball etc. That would be at Fishhawk up the street a little.

tsew22 07-22-2010 04:53 AM

Thanks Russ, I think we may be neighobors again in Fl. Good Luck with your house in MA and TV
