My hero died today
 

As a young baseball player, we all had heroes--was saddened to learn my hero Al Kaline passed away--I grew up in B'klyn-- he was my hero, all my bats were his models

RIP --Al , you were my guiding star.

He was a great guy. Born in Baltimore and played high school ball there, but the O's didn't start play until '54, and Kaline's rookie year was '53 with the Tigers. They just missed out. RIP

Al Kaline grew up in Baltimore in a rough and tumble neighborhood called Westport. He was recruited by the Tiger straight out of Southern High School and never spent a day in the minors. There haven't been many players in modern times who did that.

Yes, it is sad to hear that Al Kaline died, but I was more upset to read about the death of Pussy Galore.

Old heros and heroines should not have to die - they should be able to just fade away.

I have 3 Epix channels on Directv, it's only $6 a month. They have a lot of movies that the big 4 don't have.

At the time 'the youngest player to win the Batting Title'; had a rifle arm and tumbled backwards many a time into the stands to take a homer away and turn it into an out!!!
Achieved his dream in Playing in the World Series in 1968. In my view, one of the greatest Series Ever!

When I was in college at MSU in the 60’s we drank Al Kaline beer. The rest of the country called it Pabst Blue Ribbon but we were Tiger fans.

Growing up a White Sox fan, Al Kaline did a lot of damage against the Pale Hose, but he was still one of my favorites. RIP Al. Also RIP to the pride of the South Side of Chicago and St. Rita high school standout Ed Farmer. A pretty decent major league pitcher also.

The greatest Tiger of of the modern era and one of the greatest players of all time.

While he was still playing, the Tigers had two different "Al Kaline" days to honor him. I was able to tag along with my cousin and his family to attend the second one. It's my favorite professional baseball memory.

I remember hearing the story that he turned down a $100,000 salary offer from the Tigers, claiming that no professional athlete was worth that kind of money. Not sure if it's true, but it goes to his legacy of decency.

A friend of mine has been a major, major fan of Al Kaline for years, despite being too young to ever see him play live. He had a chance to meet him at a Tigers training camp here in Florida and his wife had to do all the talking as my friend was speechless meeting his hero. So Al continue to thrill them even after his playing days were long gone.

RIP.

Everyone remembers her from that James Bond movie.

My first ever baseball game in person was in 1973, I was 8, at Fenway Park the Red Sox played Al Kaline's Tigers.

I have one distinct memory of Kaline and that was he was the first guy I remember getting 3,000 hits. In those days I didn't see it live but on Saturday afternoon in the weekly recap of This Week in Baseball.

By all accounts he was a kind and gracious man, may he rest in peace.
