Pet Grooming, A Non-Essential Business?

There are one or more threads on TOTV which discuss what businesses are "essential" and what businesses are not.

Today, an article is circulating, the citation of which is not allowed on TOTV, about a local pet grooming service being asked, by a Lady Lake police officer, to close its doors. The officer closed the business due to the violation of an executive order issued by Gov. Ron DeSantis.

So, what is a non-essential business?

Why this business and not restaurants (people can cook at home), as well as food trucks.

Or, property rentals (vacationers can stay home)?

Or, new/used home sales (delay the purchases to post COVID)?

I say this was selective enforcement.

You know "money talks and b****t walks"

I see that as a direct health hazard.

But dog grooming?

Come on.

Agree, this is not fair. If she sold pet products, boarded pets, or worked at a vet office, grooming is not restricted by the governor's order.

Dogs and Cats can have the coronavirus also. Shut it down.

Certain breeds of dogs need to be groomed on a regular basis as hair grows in their ears and anal hair needs to be removed, in addition their nails need to be trimmed. Our dog is black and was scheduled for grooming on the 14th, he'll be in misery when walking in the heat as he has a very thick coat that needs to be thinned out every 5 or 6 weeks.

For the 12 years my Cocker Spaniel was with us, I trimmed her hair myself. I had bought an Oster A5 from Pet Smart, it works great, it's professional and heavy duty. It comes with guards so you don't cut too close, but after you get good with it, you won't really need them.

I just checked and Chewy and Amazon are out, but I found them for sale for $120 on eBay in stock in Georgia, which is cheaper than those two.

Sort of true. They have been doing research into animal transmission of COVID-19. Some species are more susceptible than other, cats much more so than dogs. There was only one case of an infected dog in Hong Kong (that we know of). Cats were able to transmit the virus to other cats. A tiger in the Bronx Zoo got it from a handler. To date, however, there are no known cases of animal to human transmission, although this whole thing may have started with bats in an open meat market in Wuhan.

The Lady Lake groomer was shut down because it was not essential however in the list of open businesses today the Flag and Flagpole store in Lady Lake is open and Wolfgang, a groomer and dog supply store is open in Brownwood where people are dropping got their pets curbside. Why is a flag store considered essential.

There are several models available on Amazon with free Prime shipping for about $130. For people like me, who would never order anything from Ebay. Although, I don't have a pet.

Most of the shears on Amazon are the same Oster A5, except eBay was cheaper and in stock, some on Amazon were out of stock, this seller was in stock and in Georgia. I have the same shears in the closet right now I bought 20 years ago, they're very good, that's why I recommended the Oster A5.

As far as eBay, you obviously have an opinion but it's not based on fact. I've been a member since 2004 and have purchased over 600 items and sold over 200 items, never had a problem. I've purchased about 50 items from Amazon during that time. What I don't like about Amazon is if you select free shipping, the item can be in stock as close as the Tampa area, but they'll sit on the shipment for 5 days because you didn't pay for Prime. eBay is a group of sellers and they live and die with feedback, provide poor service and you'll get bad feedback. For the most part, I only select dealers with free shipping and I find they'll generally ship that day or the next. I just purchased in February 24 old TV and movie 8x10 photos to put on the wall. Probably used 15 dealers and everyone arrived perfectly wrapped and within a week. Also most buyers pay with Paypal, your payment is guaranteed through them.

Here's the photos, I don't believe I could of bought these from Amazon, or for as cheap and as quickly as I got them. The frames with glass I did buy from walmart.com, $14 for 6 glass front frames individually bubble-wrapped. I like Walmart just as much or more if they have the item. They are actually trying harder to keep up with Amazon.

Here's a actual better offer that I would chose over the Georgia seller. Even though it's $8 higher and they're in Nebraska, their feedback is 49,738 and it's 99.5%, that's really a good seller. The volume is probably close to 100,000 since half the people don't leave feedback, and many who do is because they felt they were wronged. To have that many and to be so high, I would have no fear in buying from them with Paypal.

I understand your view on eBay. But, I did know a friend who ordered a camera from a seller on eBay, paid $100 to the seller, but never got the camera. It could have been that the Postal service put the camera in the wrong mailbox, but my friend had no recourse. I also won't use PayPal because I believe that some merchants use it as a way to bypass the Federal credit card dispute protections. I may be overly cautious, but I will only buy from merchants who will accept a direct credit card payment. That way, I know that if I don't receive the item, or it is defective, I will not have to pay for it. I buy almost everything from Amazon. Just my opinion.

Does anyone remember the days when only the uber rich could afford dog groomers, when we took our dogs outside put them in a tub and washed them weekly and then dried them with a large towel.....when the term service dog didn't exist and dogs weren't allowed in stores or restaurants?
