82-year-old Villages bicyclist dies of injuries suffered in crash
 

Yes, that's the lead article in our local on-line rag.

Once again, cut and paste reporting (from police reports) proves to be TOTALLY IN ERROR.

The husband of our friend suffered a heart attack, hitting the vehicle.

My friends, let that be a lesson about "journalism".

And, to the tattler, I have saved (to disk) a screen shot of your web page and all the pathetic comments trashing cyclists in general.

So, even if you delete the page, we will continue to read about our friend that loved to cycle and, as a result, was a very fit 83 year old.

I am always saddened when someone dies due to a moving accident, From what The Daily Sun said, the bicyclist hit a parked car.

It makes sense that he suffered a medical issue.

They reported the accident how would they know what was the cause? Just saying, now if they followed up at hospital and didnfollow up story, but someone would have to provide that information. I find that nearly all news outlet has bias or failure to really know what happen, but want to be first to get news out.

Report now....follow up later. Or not at all.

And that makes it OK?

The rules of journalism used to be (emphasis on "used to be) to do "where, what, when and how" when reporting. THEN follow up and double-follow up on your sources to fact check. I doubt that even happens anymore. People tend to read just the headlines even, rather than the content. Ever think about how the headlines have a "gotcha" to them??

To the OP....I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend! Praying comfort for you and his family!

Ken was called for his tee time in Heaven at the age of 82 when his heart gave out while riding his bicycle in The Villages, Florida.

An avid athlete and life-long sports fan you could usually find Ken at the golf course, biking, fishing, in the bleachers at every family member’s sporting event, or at a high-school game with his brother Denny. He was a fanatical and critical Packer fan and Green Bay Packers season ticket holder since 1959. As a West Milwaukee High School 15-time letter winner, All-Star Athlete and a Wisconsin State Track & Field Champion, he was considered one of the best all-around athletes in the 4-county area.

He graduated from Marquette University as a proud Marquette Warrior football player. A frustrated race-car driver, Ken became a self-taught mechanic and had the only “super charged” yellow Mazda Miata in Wisconsin.

Many children owe their fishing skills to his countless hours of patience at the family lake house on Hunters Lake.

Due to his distrust of GPS and insistence on using paper maps, his family saw much more of the US than originally planned.

The world just got a little bit dimmer with Ken’s passing but heaven certainly is a lot brighter.

Very sad to hear, but also more clarifying, as I thought it was odd how someone could succumb to injuries from bicycling thru a neighborhood? I'm also curious about the 71yr old lady who suffered same thing a few weeks ago, just north of there? RIP, Sir!
