Roofers pounding away at 7:30 am

Isn't there some kind of rule when a roofer or other contractor can start using their noisy tools in the morning? Last two days the roofers behind me started their noisy work at 7:30 am.

Depends if they wake you (or not).

What time does the noise ordinance start in Florida?
Most local noise ordinances designate "quiet hours"--for example, from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. on weekdays and until 8 or 9 a.m. on weekends.

So, they could actually begin their roofing work at 6:00 am? Wow, didn't know it was that early.

Rapscallion St Croix 04-14-2020 09:34 AM

That's the sound of the faint heartbeat of our economy.

If I had to be on a roof this time of year I would start at daybreak.

We were in the group of houses that got no-cost-to-the-owner roof replacement — after a bad run of shingles had caused problems for a bunch of houses in some of the villages in the LSL section. The POA was instrumental in working with the developer to get things done when the original shingles turned out to be defective.

It was August. I imagined the brutal heat those roofers would have to endure and so I called the company and said to please send the crew as early as possible.

That is when I learned that they are not allowed to start before a certain time. But I am not certain what time that was because it has been a few years. It might have been 7-something. I had told them dawn would be OK with us.

I think I must have been the weirdest call the roofing company had ever received. I could tell they were not used to getting a call from someone concerned about their roofers in the heat. I guess they usually hear a lot self-serving b#&%*ing about the noise in the morning.

Roofing has to be one of the hardest jobs, from a safety standpoint, and especially in high heat.

Geez. Those are your fellow human beings up there, trying to do their jobs. It will not go on forever and then you can get back to your beauty sleep.

First world problems, for sure.

Yes, but aren’t we the first world? Doesn’t that make sense then?

I like to sleep in myself, but if I had to work on the roof... I can sleep with earplugs.

My point being that people are complaining about roofers installing a roof early in the morning. It's a thankless, exhausting job. Cut them some slack for trying to avoid the heat, and possibly the late day storms. Not to mention, starting at 7:30 is perfectly legal.

if it were your house it would be okay. i"m sure you never spent any time on a roof. give these guys a break and let them earn a living.
