Antibody testing in Leesburg
 

Has anyone taken advantage of the drive-thru antibody testing offered in Leesburg (a joint venture of Adult Medicine of Lake County, City of Leesburg, Lake Sumter State College, and FL Dept of Health)?

Curious about the wait times.

Yes, I went today (mid morning). Surprisingly, it wasn't very crowded at all. There were about 10 cars ahead of me when I arrived and the line kept moving. It took about 15 minutes, from the time I got in line, until the time I was finished.

if my wife and I do not have any of the covid-19 symptoms why should we go and be tested??

seriously...I'm open to being tested, I just don't understand what benefit getting tested would have if neither of us have any symptoms

Wouldn't the test tell you that you are asymptomatic and if you are then a threat to your wife and others. If I understand it correctly you could donate plasma and possibly help others fight the virus.

Lots of people have no symptoms but still have the virus. That is a useful thing to know because then you can quarantine yourself and not spread it around.

I don't know if I will do that test but I do want to be tested for antibodies, which should tell us if we already had the virus (to the extent that such tests are accurate). All three of the adults who live in my house were sick in January. I want to know if we had corona or something else.

In theory the swab test will tell you if you have an active case of the virus. (There is some degree of false negatives and false positives.) The antibody test will tell you if you had the virus in the past and have developed antibodies. I don't know where they are doing plasma donations. If you find out you have antibodies you could call the Red Cross (or check their web site) for that information.

The antibody test is not used to determine if you have an active case. It's purpose is to determine if you've already had covid-19. A covid-19 antibody test can reveal whether an illness suffered a few of months ago (or weeks ago), was actually covid-19. It can also detect if a person contracted it, but was asymptomatic. The supposition is that if you've already had it, you may well be immuned to contracting it again.

We went to Leesburg for antibody tests yesterday afternoon. Got there about 3 pm and there were 5 cars ahead of us. Took 5 or 10 minutes to get to the front of the line where we were given forms to fill out (just contact info) and paid for our tests via credit card. Then we pulled up to the area where the blood samples were drawn. (I thought it would be a pinprick, but they they took a whole tube of blood, just FYI.) The whole process took 15 to 20 minutes for three adults. We should get our test results in 1 to 4 business days.
