Conversation typically goes like this:

Go outsider: I want to play softball, pickleball, golf, swimming etc

Stay at homer: Noooooooo!!!! You'll kill us all!!!

Go outsider: How so? You don't have to play if you don't want to.

Stay at homer: Your dangerous activity will infect me when I go to Publix!!!

Go outsider: You are much more likely to get infected inside a supermarket than I am on a softball field.

Stay at homer: You'll have blood on your hands!!!

And so on...

Stay at homers should be advised that there are only two ways to reduce risk to zero.

Achieve worldwide herd immunity (could take 1.5 to 2 years) or produce 8 billion shots of 100% effective vaccine. (not likely based on medical history)

Risk of contagion drops dramatically when you are outside. In a study of : Three hundred and eighteen outbreaks with three or more cases were identified, involving 1245 confirmed cases in 120 prefectural cities. We divided the venues in which the outbreaks occurred into six categories: homes, transport, food, entertainment, shopping, and miscellaneous. We identified only a single outbreak in an outdoor environment, which involved two cases.

Conclusions: All identified outbreaks of three or more cases occurred in an indoor environment, which confirms that sharing indoor space is a major SARS-CoV-2 infection risk

Now a "Stay at homer" should duplicate this post with that point of view. I'm guessing one would be about as convincing as the other...and likely change equally as many minds. :)

CDC IS also indicating strong correlation to spending time in air-conditioned environments.

Actually, I have been a stay at homer for almost 6 weeks, and I haven't stepped foot inside a building other than my own home during that time. Scientific evidence now tells me that this was a wise strategy, as 99% plus of infections occur indoors. Recent studies showing that sunlight deactivates the virus in less than 2 minutes gives me confidence in starting outdoor activities like golf.

In the begining, we didn't know what we didn't know. Now we have evidence transmission in an outside environment seems to be approaching the likelyhood of being struck by lightening.

We need learn and focus on the high risk areas. Wash your hands, don't touch your face, social distance, use masks in interior environments.

Introducing more frequent air exchange in interior environments may be as/more important than additional distancing.

What's your point ? Come Monday your wish is coming true. Outdoors will begin to open to you. OH I'll bet softball is not one of the activities starting up on Monday.

It's quite obvious what my point is. Science is telling us that most outdoor activities carry little risk of infection. That includes softball. Perhaps I should start a thread shaming those who enter supermarkets because they are going to kill us all. :a040:

There's also a difference between essentials and play time.

Starting a thread shaming others about entering supermarkets is perfectly legal but playing softball right now in Florida is against the law (executive order). Just a what if - when and if softball opens back up half your teammates don't show up because they think it is better to be safe than sorry. Will you shame them ?

The Villages is actually being more cautious than most of the local towns. Lady Lake dog parks never closed. They are playing pickleball at several locations in the surrounding areas. I'm sure there are more examples - these are just the ones I have seen personally. I look forward to the day when "abundance of caution" gives way and every outdoor activity opens back up. I will be playing on day 1.

My unscientific and purely personal opinion is that there is lest virus risk associated with pickleball or softball (when some precautions are taken) than with the swimming venues. Amazingly, no one asked me first.
