I am surprised that pools and restaurants are reopening. Keep hearing that City Fire has tons of people milling around all on top of each other.

Lost Interest

Have lost interest in the subject of Virus controls ! If you drive your golf cart in Sumter Landing it is astonishing how many groups are close to each other, (e.g.at Gators they are jammed in as is Red Sauce.) Then you have the Director of all Recreation Centers ignoring
the "Mask Rule"! He is the Poster Boy for those at the Squares ignoring the Doctors advise to wear a mask and "protect others". The best advise is to take care of yourself and don't preach as it is over ridden by lack of respect of your neighbor and Village Management. :ohdear:

If we don’t open, many will die. Yes suicide and depression and mental health issues will rise, but so will deaths from things people do not think about. Elective surgery and screening processes are not being done in some states. How many disease process are being missed leading to death? I am thinking of things like cancer screening, colonoscopies, pacemaker battery changes, cardiac stents, the list could be endless. Damn if we do, Damn if we don’t

We are reopening because the curve has been flattened, and we can be reasonably sure that new cases won't strain our capacity to care for them. Tens of millions of people have lost their livelihoods, and thousands of small business owners have lost everything, or are on the brink of losing everything. We are moving to the model we probably should have adopted in the first place: isolate the most vulnerable and everyone else practice good hygiene. If you don't feel safe going to a store or restaurant, don't go. But don't demand that millions of people sacrifice all they have to make you feel safe. There's no such thing as safety anyway. You can choose less risk, but guaranteed safety doesn't exist.

The true reality is that at some point life must resume living for the MAJORITY to continue to survive. At some point there will be a level of new cases and deaths that will be viewed as, it is what it is, and life will go on.

Just like the millions that get the flu and many thousands of them die......EVERY YEAR.....while life goes on.

More than half of all covid 19 deaths have occurred in just 4 states. There have been zero covid 19 deaths in over half of US counties. Should we all be bound by rules more appropriate for NYC?

You don't have to "open up" and can stay home until you feel safe. If the economy is not started up soon, there will not be anything to open up.

Because we have had no deaths in half the counties does not mean they aren't still vulnerable. I hear and agree that our economy will suffer terribly. Sometimes there are NO solutions to problems. THAT is what is scary.

You are free to stay home until they can make a vaccine. The economy can't wait for that.

I wholeheartily agree with this statement. But it comes with stipulations.

Maintain social distancing strictly, even for sporting events and concerts.

Wear masks when social distancing is not a viable option.

Average influenza season 44,000 Americans die in a population of about 330 million, or 1 in every 7500

Florida population 21,500,000 divided by 7500 = 2867 expected deaths from flu. Covid 19 deaths = 1600

That's why we are "opening up" Anyone who wants to stay home may feel free to do so.

Stu from NYC 05-08-2020 02:29 PM

Eventually we might all get it. Longer this goes on wondering if destroying the economy and many lives is worth it. As someone said earlier on this thread sometimes there is no right answer.

Why R we opening??..................nothing worse than grandparents getting a divorce.
