Amazon Prime

My husband and I noticed that seasons 1-5 of the HBO series "Boardwalk Empire" was included with our Amazon Prime. We watched the first two seasons and really got hooked on it. We started the third season and lo and behold were told there would be an additional charge on top of our monthly charge for Prime. Talk about a bait and switch deal! My husband tried to complain to Amazon but the gentleman manning the phones over in India could only type "sorry for your inconvenience".

We watched some of the those premium shows also. But also knowing that HBO, Showtime, Cinema, etc all had a 30 day free trial. Maybe your trial ended.

we're happily reading all the free books on our Kindles that we get from Amazon Prime

The last several seasons of Boardwalk Empire were fantastic. I really like the name of one of the main players. Hope you get it sorted out so you can finish the entire program. Maybe you can pick them up on YOUTUBE?

Some shows on Prime are priced that way.

If you have HBO, you can watch On-Demand right now.

If not, HBO NOW has a free trial and you can get it there.

So Amazon Prime provided a couple of seasons free of an HBO show and then there is an episode charge for the newer ones. It's not just Boardwalk Empire or HBO. It's just a successful marketing plan. Of course, you will never have to pay extra for Amazon's own shows.

I may be wrong but I wouldn't blame Amazon Prime completely. HBO may also be in cahoots offering up a couple free episodes so you'll pay for the remaining Seasons. I'm sure they also get a cut of that.

Very common practice for streaming services. Not bait and switch at all. They’re very above board about it imo.

Amazon Prime

Being above board to me would have been for Amazon Prime to have told us at the beginning that the first two seasons would be free and there would be a charge for the remainder. When I checked Veep out, and I can't remember if that was on Netflix or AP, I saw right from the get go that there would be an extra charge. To me, that's being above board!

Ran out of other stuff to watch on TV so we figured out how to watch Amazon Prime yesterday and interesting to see our experience.

During the pandemic many pay channels were nice enough to provide stay at home and watch for free opportunities. Heck Xfinity had a month long Watchathon for most of the premium channels. You could sit there all day and binge some great shows and yes, most came to an end May 17th or 23rd. If you still want to watch you can usually sign up for a free 7 day or bit the bullet and subscribe. It was great watching with no commercials. They are in business to make money. I still think it was wonderful for all these channels to offer month long free during this pandemic. It was very difficult having to sit at home. These shows made it possible.

I for one was grateful.

prime promos

Amazon prime makes it very clear how much of a series is free if you would take the time to look at the added seasons list for each show. also the premium channels available on prome are always listed in specifid seperate locations and not listed as free.

Tricky

I agree that Amazon Prime has a "tricky way" when viewing various video offerings. You have to look closely to make sure it is not one of their free now but pay after a little usage. The good point of Netflix is there are none of these slight of hands to get your money.
You can bet the farm that Amazon is getting a cut from what HBO, Cinemax, etc are getting from this creative way of fooling the user! I made the mistake once of missing the small print and getting an extra charge on my bill. Never again!!! :ohdear:
