TV, Internet, Phone Options?

We're excited to be closing on our home on 8/27/10. However, some things are still a bit confusing. Is Comcast the only provider available for TV/Internet/Phone? If you go with Dish, do you need to get permission first?

Thanks

Comcast is the only cable provider.

There is a phone company, which we don't use and they have changed names so many times I can't remember there current name. They offer DSL.

IMHO, it is best to check with Deed Compliance prior to installing Dish or Direct TV. I don't believe they can refuse but the location of the antenna can be an issue. With Deed Compliance approval you will have an answer to any neighborhood abjection.

Have you posed these concerns to your salesperson? He/she should be able to help.

Century Link

We had Dish up north -- so many problems and horrific customer service from Comcast that I'll never use them again for anything -- and used the Dish Mover plan w/o any problems when we moved here mid-June. Dish is mounted on a pole in the backyard of our CYV. Installer arrived on time and setup was very straightforward.

Went with Century Link for internet, ordered the equipment via a quick phone call, and the installer was again very prompt and done in about 10 minutes -- all he had to do was turn on the connection and check its functionality.

We don't have a land line but Century Link does offer packages with all 3.

I've run across many who express considerable dissatisfaction with Comcast, but I'll quickly relate my very recent experience just this past weekend, 8/7-8/8/10) with them:

Came home from a week away, found my computer unable to access the internet. After an hour or so on the 'phone with a Geek Squad member, he recommended calling Comcast, first, because he suspected a modem problem.

I called Comcast mid-day on Sunday, and within less than 15 minutes it was determined that my modem was, indeed, the problem. We set up a house call from a technician on Monday, between 4pm and 7pm.

The tech arrived at 4:45pm, again diagnosed that the modem was bad, replaced it and was gone by 5:15pm.

While I was, of course, quite frustrated at the delay, you must acknowledge that in these days that's pretty good service!

I've used Comcast for just over five years and have never had the slightest problem or concern with them!
