Morse Blvd Repaving Complete - For Now
The Morse Boulevard repaving project is complete according to Sumter County Board of Works, at least for now. They applied for a state grant to repave the section by the Mallory Golf Course which is in the worst shape and it has been approved for funding in FY 2021 starting July 1, 2020. After requesting the grant, county commissioners approved a budget including funding to repave the remainder of the road and made that funding available immediately. The approximate timeline for completing the remainder of the repaving includes advertising for bis on July 6, 2020 which will be due back 30 days later. Awarding the contract and then construction time probably means completion sometime in October. In the meantime, it will be shake and rattle for about a mile of Morse Boulevard.

good to know, should have been in first phase and hope it lasts longer than the patches

Now they'll start tearing it up for utility improvements

Yes, wasn't that always the case... I do believe though that in TV the utilities do no run under the roads (drainage excepted) It's obvious that the construction vehicles have no where else to park when the crews are finished for the day so they end up on the grassy areas along side the road. I know they'll repair it, but it is sad to see the ruts those vehicles create |

There must be some reason (other than funds) why they skipped just that 1.2 mile stretch of Morse. Maybe because it required extra road bed preparation $$$$$ due to it's awful condition? They probably paved 25+ miles of road under Part 1 & 2 except for that relatively small 1.2 mile area. Sure seems half fast to me (not a typo :D ).

A monument to incompetent bureaucracy: showcasing the best 1.2 miles of the worst case of potholes in The Villages. It also demonstrates how the bureaucrats love to spend our money because now, for at least another year, they can justify their budgets by sending out a road crew (usually a couple of trucks and 4 - 6 workers) after each rainfall to re-patch the old and fill in the new holes and clean up the hunks of asphalt scattered about the roadway.

In NY lots of potholes from very heavy trucks and freezing temps that moisture got into cracks and made them worse as moisture melted. Why so bad here? |
