Back to School Supplies

The schools outside of TV are in need of basic supplies for the many children who have very little.

Publix is having a very good sale on the basics; Crayons, pencils, notebooks, etc. and they have drop off boxes at the exits.

Next time you're in Publix, please take a minute, buy a few items and drop them in the box.

Make a child smile on the first day of school.

Thanks,
Gail

May I add, Florida has an official Back to School Sales Tax Holiday. It is a three day sales-tax holiday from August 13 through 15, 2010, on school supplies, books, clothing, and footwear. I think the footwear has to be in excess of $50, but whatever, the other basic school supplies will be tax free.

Went shopping

Stopped by Publix today and it really is a good sale.

Spent $30.00 and bought over $80.00 worth of supplies.

Crayons were $.33 a package... I think they cost more than that when we were kids!

BK,
Thanks for the link.

Our neighborhood adopted a school in Belleview and collected "tons" of school supplies. We had a list from the school.

I will do it here in Atlanta as I'm not in TV now. Thanks for the great suggestion.

There is a price limit on clothes and school supplies. All apparel, backbacks, etc purchased have to be priced at $50 or less a piece. School items have to be $10 or less. This is per your link.

Thanks zcaveman for clarifying that very important point.

As a teacher in a school just outside TV, I can't thank you enough. Our school has 1400 students and 85% recieve free or reduced lunches. Very poor school district but we still achieved an "A" this year. These kids really need your help and support and it is truly appreciated!

Your school received the Adequate Yearly Progress this year?

Glad to hear about your school's achievement.

More good news is that the sale at Publix is still on through next Wednesday.

Thanks to all for the info about the tax free days and keeping this thread active.

Unfortunately we did not make AYP, but we showed huge gains. For a school with our demographics, it is truly amazing. Considering we have a large number of students without electricity or running water, getting them to achieve in school is quite a task.....But we love it!!!!
