Curb your dog & clean up
The pond at Canal and Homeland is a popular dog walking area and most people do clean up after their dogs. However as of late some people have taken a new look at curb your dog. After clean up the plastic bags of poop are being either place on or in the storm drains on Homeland next to the pond. Take it home and either flush it or throw it in your garbage. Somday we will get rain again and the poop will wind up in the pond..

I wasn't going to reply to this message but it has become a major pet peeve of mine. It makes me grumpy.:grumpy: I had occassion to walk behind the mail station and was appalled at the amount of poop in the field. At sunset point on Sumter bridge, poop everywhere. I can understand why dogs get a bad rap with the irresponsible owners walking away from their pet's mess. Placing it in the storm drains is pollution folks. Take it home. Get rid of your entitlement attitude and pick it up, stop giving Fumar ammunition......:boxing2:

Changed my post - that poop is worth money - read this. http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2010/...est=latestnews |
Dog Feces Is Dangerous
After reading the various posts about TV residents being annoyed by dogs relieving themselves on their lawns, we decided to go to parks/neutral areas to walk our dogs. I was surprised to see the amount of feces left behind by others. At first I allowed myself to be angered. Feces is dangerous stuff, especially allowed to remain in this heat. :ohdear:
Now, instead of being angry, I decided that I would clean up all this poop myself, and do so regularly. I clean up other dogs' poop for the thoughtless dog owners who leave it behind. So if you are one of those people, walking your dog at night so no one will see you leave without cleaning up . . . please know that it is a dangerous practice. Feces carries all kinds of bacteria and disease that can be passed on to other dogs who merely sniff the remains. As the feces dries, bacteria becomes airborne. Eggs from hookworms hatch and can enter dogs' lungs. In the wild, dogs will travel to the ends of their territory to relieve themselves. Then, some will cover their feces with dirt. Left to their own devices, dogs are cleaner than these "expletive deleted" owners! Sad, that some people are so careless about the health, safety and welfare of others. No, don't even ask . . . I will not walk my dogs at your mail stop. Signed: Policing the Poop :police: |
Gourmet Stuff
I'll have to bring our Puggle over. She loves to eat other dogs poop. Uh, just the gourmet poop though.:throwtomatoes:

I share in the anger about the irresponsible owners who fail to clean up after their dogs. Hard as it is to believe, we also see these presents in our lawn frequently - not at the street but in the back lawn or between our home and the neighbor. None of us in the immediate area have dogs or cats so someone apparently just seems to feel entitled to let the critter out to take care of things on their own. Not the dogs fault but I sure would like to know who the human part of the family is. Very unsafe for the dog as well as others who have to step or slip/fall in it, or have grandchildren who will find it. :cus:

Some of the worst foods are Beneful, most anything by Purina, Alpo, Kibbles & Bits, Old Roy and most of those made by the big food corporations. They take the food that is inedible for human consumption and put it in dog food, including cancerous meat, spoiled grains, and corn (which dogs cannot digest). Some dog foods even include road kill and euthanized pets. Dogs have died from from malnutrition by being fed nothing but Beneful. It's smarter to spend a little extra for high quality food, rather than spend the same money later on vet bills for a sick animal. If you love your dog, do some research on dog food: https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...ght=Safe+Foods |
K9, I'm so impressed with your generosity in picking up after others.:faint: Maybe we need a seminar on responsible dog ownership. The only problem with that idea is all the responsible owners would attend and the irresponsible owners would be out spreading disease. My little guy is paper trained on peepee pads and he walks our property a few times a day, so we're safe from walking in dog poop.

Thanks, DuffysMom, for your kind words, but I'm not picking up dog poop out of generosity! :icon_wink: I do it for the selfish reason of keeping my own dogs safe. Having been in the animal care business for a number of years, I know how detrimental dog feces can be. My dogs are well-loved members of my family, and there's no limit to what I will do to take good care of my companions. Their quality of life depends on me.

K-9. I am astonished. I only have this to say, that if we all took on a problem as our problem, then there would be fewer problems.
As many of you know, I am a dog lover who doesn't have a dog. I am a snowbird and when we return in the fall, we find a lot of feces in our back yard. I pick it up but I don't like it. When we are there a neighbor and his dogs walk through our back yard to the Odell center but never carries a bag. I guess that we can post and we can rant and we can steam and we can wish, but we will never change anothers behavior. Dear K-9, I hope that someone sees you doing this task and feels some embarassment and changes his or her negligent behavior. Dang, I hate it when a sweet little pup gets the rap for this kinda stuff. K-9. I sure do like your attitude. |

About throwing dog poop down a storm sewer!
A year or so ago, I saw a news story about a guy in Ohio who was video taped putting "grass clippings" down the storm sewer near his house. (Now folks this was just your ordinary, everyday neighborhood guy) Well, he was arrested and charged with a violation of the Federal "Clean Water Act" and was given some prison time. The penalties included in the CWA. Under section 309, EPA can issue administrative orders against violators, and seek civil or criminal penalties when necessary.[23] * For a first offense of criminal negligence, the minimum fine is $2,500, with a maximum of $25,000 fine per day of violation. A violator may also receive up to a year in jail. On a second offense, a maximum fine of $50,000 per day may be issued. * For a knowing endangerment violation, i.e. placing another person in imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury, a fine may be issued up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment up to 15 years for an individual, or up to $1,000,000 for an organization. Any U.S. citizens may file a citizen suit against a suspected CWA violator regardless of the EPA, USACE or a state's opinion. That puts a different twist on throwing, not only dog poop, but the plastic bag down the storm drain. :BigApplause: JLK |
rules
So what are the rules?? If you are a good person who picks up after dogs why do people still get upset?
