Beach Suggestions within one hour of Villages

I know that here are some amazing beaches 1.5 to 2 hours away but I was told there was a really nice "beach" within an hour of the Villages. Anyone know where that is?

Look at your map for this little beach on the gulf. Go out to 44 sand go west, I think it's crystal river or at least near there. Just over an hour from St James.

You really have to go the 2 hours for a true Florida beach experience.

I usually make it to Ormond Beach (just north of Daytona Beach) in an hour and a half. Can become a little more though depending on driving speed, route, traffic, etc. Definitely a true Florida Beach experience.

Unless you have a helicopter or consider a sand trap a beach, nothing within one hour.

There are no beaches within an hour's drive.

Look at Fort Island beach and fishing pier just south of Crystal river. Google maps. We have been there several times and think
you might enjoy it.

Define "Beach".

If you want just nice white sand, a protective barrier in the water and nice shallow salt water without waves, then The beach in Citrus County (Crystal River) is wonderful.
It's the Gulf so water is shallow. The beach is perhaps an eight of a mile wide and there is an adjacent fishing pier and boat launch ramp. Food is a "Roach Coach" on weekends and maybe a hot dog cart on weekdays. There is a nice new bathroom and an outside shower to get the sand off.
Go to Crystal River - turn west off of US19 onto FL44 (at The Plantation Resort)and go until your tires get wet (about 9 miles)

Cold water East.
Warm water West.
West is best!

Fort Gulf Beach at the very west end of 44. One hour from my house in St. James. It's a state owned beach with beach and fishing pier.

Honeymoon beach is the closest gulf beach without having to go thru major traffic and the big bridges.
