Regis Philbin, a longtime television host, has died. He was 88.

“We are deeply saddened to share that our beloved Regis Philbin passed away last night of natural causes, one month shy of his 89th birthday,” his family told People magazine on Saturday. “His family and friends are forever grateful for the time we got to spend with him – for his warmth, his legendary sense of humor, and his singular ability to make every day into something worth talking about. We thank his fans and admirers for their incredible support over his 60-year career and ask for privacy as we mourn his loss.”

He had a great career

I actually shed tears when I read the announcement on Facebook a couple of hours ago. Regis was part of my daily life from around 1986, the year after he was first paired up with Kathie Lee, all through the Kelly years and even during his first few episodes of Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

He's living in heaven's version of the Bronx now. I imagine he has eternal Sabretts and box seats at Yankee games up in the clouds.

A weather lady on Facebook had mentioned he had passed. She is one of the weather ladies whom he had featured. Regis Philbin did a lot of good work and seems like he was a very good person.

I kind of remember he had something to do with Joey Bishop on a show way back when?

Regis was such a great morning TV host. His stories were hysterical. He provided us with many happy hours with Kathie Lee Gifford and Kelly Ripa. Very sad to hear of his passing, RIP Regis.

Very sad news. He was a semi-regular guest on talk shows since he retired, particularly Kimmel, and I noticed he hadn't been on for a long time.

I stopped watching "Live" after he left. Never once in thousands of episodes did he ever phone it in or be less than enthusiastic, lively, and engaged.

Today I rewatched some of his old appearances on Letterman because those two always made me laugh.

I'm sure Notre Dame, his old high school, and many other charities are also mourning the loss of their benefactor.

He was a part of many people's lives in the Tri-State Area. I for one will always miss his upbeat attitude. Watch the people who never bother with him once he left his show come out now and bow to him. Phoney Bologna stuff.

The lesson for me and everyone is to be good to people while they are here. I just hope he didn't suffer. R.I.P.
Regis Philbin Remembers 9-11 - YouTube Regis was one of many who tried to help out and bring back a little normalcy to our lives. Everybody was so lost and I remember him being so kind. Same thing with David Letterman.

I'm glad he never went back to work. He went out on top.

The show was great with Katie Lee. Not so much with Kelly. IMHO!

Well, we all die. Regis from all accounts had a wonderful family, career and financial status. He lived a long life. Did much better than some of us.

A bit too quirky for my tastes
