Utility cost

We are new part time owners in The Villages and just received our first full months utility bill for our Patio Villa and it scared me $ 197.00 !!!!!!
Is this a normal months utility ? We have had a gal living there part time.
Our electric provider is Progress Energy'

Thanks for your input as usual,
jdarby2

You might ask her what temp. she sets the thermostat, both when she is there and when she is away.

That's high.

Our July bill for an empty 1700 SF house set at 82 degrees was $75 from Progress Energy.

(my brother just raised it to 85).

We're part timer's too and we just closed on a new Camelia. We were there from the 7th til the 16th. We just got our 1st bill from SECO and the electric charge was $113. We did install a programmable thermostat for when we're not there which is set @ 80 deg.

Hi jdarby2,
Any chance that included a security deposit. That is very high. Be sure to program your thermostat so that it doesn't overcool the house while no one is there.

I have Seco so we're not actually comparing the same charges, but that seems high. I have a Lantana with a spa and keep my thermostat set to 78 degrees in the summer, plus run lots of electronic "toys." My Seco bill in the summer can run from $180 to $235. Our rates can't be that much different, can they?

Progress Energy's rates for TV are, for the first 1000 KWH 6.886 cents per KWH. Above 1000 KWH: 7.977 cents per KWH.

Then you have the fuel charge: First 1000 KWH 4.611 per KWH. Above 1000 KWH 5.611 per KWH.

Then on that you have gross receipts tax about $1.70 for 500 KWH, municipal franchise fee of $4.11, municipal utility tax $3.68.

That does seem high. We have a CYV, are down for at least 1/2 of every month, do laundry like crazy and keep temp at 77 when down and 80 when leave and our bill averages $85 with SECO.

What was the bill for June? Might want to call and find out. If a new villa, someone didn't pay the last bill, or used an estimated reading. That is more then double what it should be. My guess is your paying for past sins. Wait and see your August bill.
