I've had days when Turtle Mound feels like a 6.

Wow! I can't believe that is only a 3. From the black tees it seems every hole is 190 or more! I can only think of about 3 or 4 holes I used an iron. I think I wore out my hybrids!:shrug:

I don't think there is a rule that says you MUST play from the back tees. I am frequenly puzzled by folks who insist on hitting from the back tees and then hit their second shot from forward tees.

There is a page or 2 in the front of your The Villages phone book that describes and lists the course levels for the executive courses. You can play any tee on any course but you should pick a tee based on your ability to maintain an acceptable pace of play as also described in the phone book.

There are explanations for those shots, here they are:

If I hit it very far it usually ends up in a sand trap or water. I only bought one ball today so I'm playing conservatively.

I somehow used the wrong ball today. (But it's the only one I have with me.)

I somehow used the wrong club today. (And I've tried them all.)

I somehow used the wrong tee today. (A tall one to avoid a divot, I forgot my sand bottle.)

I somehow used the wrong pair of shoes today. (Slipped on my backswing.)

I failed to properly check the yardage. (I thought it said 20 yards, not 200.)

I got up on the wrong side of bed. (And a hour earlier than usual.)

I got up on the right side of bed. (But had to rush to make my tee time.)

Let's face it, once I got up I knew I'd have a bad golf day. (But I'm glad I'm still able to get up.)

The people I'm playing with were using the forward tees. (And having a good conversation, I didn't want to be left out.)

Hope this explains my errant shots to you. (Please use care when standing behind me, I have been known to hit the ball backwards.)

Just my opinion, but I think you should play from the tee associated with your handicap, if you have one, if not, play the green until you are able to establish one. I understand that at some northern courses this is the rule.

Yes JE some 'northern' courses have handicap recommendations for their tees. But as long as you keep up the pace of play they aren't going to force you to choose one.
