That is a good question, Reason, because of its "Sister group".
"Adults have a glossy, greenish-black cap, a greenish back and wings that are grey-black grading into green or blue, a chestnut neck with a white line down the front, grey underparts and short yellow legs."

This coloring is much more like the Green Heron's that I've seen in the wild

perhaps the OP's was a young one

The green heron is a really beautiful bird. Thank you for sharing. I have never seen one before. The sister bird though has such an interesting combination of plumage. Thank you!
