Electric Outage 9/01 Bet 466a and 44
 

There was an electric outage late Tues afternoon (9/01) bet 5 and 6 PM. The SECO outage area map showed that it affected the area between 466a and 44 on either side of Morse Blvd. There was nothing mentioned in the paper or on line. Does anyone know what caused the outage?

A neighbor mentioned that SECO sent them a text message about the outage with an estimated repair time. I’d like to check out how to sign up for that type of notification with SECO.

I called during the power outage and finally got through to a SECO customer service person. I was told that the outage affected about 2000 customers and that it was due to a problem at a power substation.

I called SECO and signed up for their alerts. They have several options: a phone call, an email, or a text message. This way you don’t have to wonder if it’s just your home or the neighborhood affected. Of course their estimated repair time is their best guess.

Text came in less than 1 minute after power went out

My outage was around noon! I live in monarch village. Had power at 5.

But seriously, we were impressed with the SECO notifications & quick repair time. Was 45 minutes faster than they predicted

We live in Monarch Grove too and our power went out around noon for about 20 mins. I, too, get the SECO energy texts and within a min or two of the outage, I got a text saying we were out of power. When it came back on, I got another text a few mins later saying the power was back on. We didn't lose power at 5 though..... We also lost Wifi at the same time for about 10 mins. The Xfinity website said only that an outage was detected in the area and we'd have service by 4 p.m. Fortunately, it was only about 10 mins.

There have been very few power outages that have happened to us while living here in The Villages. Maybe because of the wonderful buried lines almost everywhere. Now and again they will be affected by a "sinkhole type of break" underground. During Hurricane Irma we were without power for a couple of days.

It is my guess, my theory, my attempt to start a rumor, that some of the brief....(up to
a couple hours) power interruptions we experience here may be due to someone having to disconnect some major lines in order to attach some new major lines .

I have always wondered WHY anyone called the power company when their electricity went out. I always assumed that a bunch of people were working like beavers to restore it.

Now I know from reading this Forum that many are worried about having use of their C-Pap machines and many need Oxygen or other crucial health devices.

It was an expensive power outage for us. Lost power a little after 5 p.m. Reported it. Neighbors confirmed our whole neighborhood was out, but we did not know the cause or extent. Power came back on by 6:00. However it blew up our A/C. Called our A/C emergency after hours service and tech came right out. Said it was not a coincidence. When power is turned back on there is a huge surge of 'dirty electric.' It fried the a/c fan motor. They were able to get a replacement the next day and the tech that came back told me every single work order he had that day was for failed fan motors and all within a mile of our house. Total cost of service call and new motor $738 plus night in hotel because house was unbearably hot. Guess it could've been worse, at least it wasn't the compressor, but it stilled sucked. Thanks SECO. What the hell are we paying $5.95 a month for surge protection that obviously doesn't work???

I'm thinking that because of all the construction going on and new homes and electric lines being installed, sometimes our power is affected while they are working on those lines; the same holds true for the TV cable lines. I live south of 44. My outage didn't last long, maybe 10 minutes.
