Garage door opener

Someone has a duplicate code to open my garage doors.
How can I change my access code?

villagetinker 10-14-2020 12:57 PM

Go to Google, search on your specific garage door opener and the word manual, You should get to one or more sites that will have the manual for FREE download. Then follow the directions for clearing ALL codes. Change the code in your remotes, and then reprogram.
If you are not comfortable doing this, see if one of your neighbors has done this and ask for help. Finially if none of these work for you, call Ryan O'Culle and have him fix it.

Probably neighbor close by who’s opener set on same frequency as you’re? As suggested use the name brand maker to change you’re codes. Which might have to change the opener motor also, especially if it’s older MVP model?

MVP opener:

The following was sent to me from Romac. It is for a MVP opener:

Hello,

As per our conversation here are your instructions:

When your garage door is being opened by a neighbor follow the following
instructions:

1) Erase the memory on your motor

a. Use a paperclip to press the program button (pinhole) located on your
wall station

b. Hold the paperclip in the pinhole until the overhead light goes off

c. Do this twice

d. Try your handheld remote, it should not work. If it does, repeat step 1

e. If you have a keypad continue to step 2, if not continue to step 3

2) Program your OUTSIDE keypad to your motor

a. Use a paperclip to press the program button (pinhole) located on your
wall station – just a quick tap in and out

b. The overhead light will go on and stay on

c. press the “on/reset” button on the keypad and the red lights will come on

d. slowly press the 4 numbers you want to use

e. the keypad will double blink and the overhead light will go off letting
you know it accepted the code

f. wait for the keypad lights to go off

g. press the “on” button and type your numbers in and it should work the
door.

3) Program your remotes to your motor

a. Use a paperclip to press the program button (pinhole) located on your
wall station – just a quick tap in and out

b. The overhead light will go on and stay on

c. Press the button on your remote you use to open the door

d. Wait 15-30 seconds; the overhead light will go off letting you know it
accepted the code

e. Press the button on your remote again and it should work the door

f. if you have any additional remotes:

i. try any additional remotes you may have, if they work there are no
further action needed

ii. if they do not work, repeat step 3 to reprogram

When you are opening your neighbor’s garage door follow the instructions
below:

1) Recode your remote

a. Press and hold the “+” and then the “-“simultaneously on your
remote until the red light blinks release the buttons and the red light
should remain lit on the remote

b. Press the button you wish to open your garage door (either the
plus, minus or zero button)

c. Now you are going to press any button on the remote for a total of
nine times.

i. This
can be in any order or combination you wish, this will be your remote code

ii. For
example press: plus, plus, minus, center, plus, center etc until you
reached nine times

d. If done correctly the remote will blink after the 9th press of the
remote and the red light will now go off letting you know it is no longer
in program mode and has accepted the code.

2) See step 3 above

PLEASE NOTE: We recommend that you program your remotes and/or keypad
either early in the morning or late at night to reduce the likelihood of
picking up unwanted codes.

If these steps do not work, please call the office and schedule a service
call with a technician.

We had this happen several times. We changed the code many times only to find out that the builder had been using the same make and model opener over 20 years and there are not enough different codes to keep it from happening.

Solution replace a hardly used unit with a different brand.

We used Chamberlin got the top of the line with blue tooth technology.

We are part time residents so now when the door is open for service or our management company to inspect we get an alert on our phone and we can close it from anywhere using the phone app.

Good luck we tried everything we could but this was the truth haven’t had an issue since we changed it last May

We had the same problem when we moved in - the contractors install the garage door but do NOT change them from factory default. I could open 3 other garage doors in my village! Your manual tells you how to change the code or a neighbor that has done it or a Romac technician will. Usually you have TWO openers - you have to change both. Bob from Gilchrist

When I first moved into my new home (that was not pre-owned), my garage opened at 10 pm one night. It scared the heck out of me and I called the builder in the morning. They changed my code. If you have the opener that seems to be in everyone’s home, there is a switch at the bottom and you can toggle it over to lock it. That disables the door until you switch it back to the unlock position. Incidentally, after 2 1/2 years, my garage door opener broke. I had it replaced by Precision Door. It was costly but it is far superior to the one that came with the house. I thought it was just mine until yesterday when the same thing happened to my neighbor’s garage door opener. It makes me fearful of how long my other appliances will last.

Thank you Romac Emailed simple instructions.

GregG7 10-15-2020 08:28 AM

Not an answer to the question, but an FYI: When you move into a new house, it's a good idea to clear all the garage door codes on your opener, as well as any codes in the keypad (if you have one) that operates the garage door.
During house construction many contractors and individuals have access to your house and they could easily program a door opener, or program a code in the keypad to open your garage door.

steve1025 10-15-2020 09:32 AM

Step 1.
Take all your remotes into the street and click them. See if someone elses door opens. If so thats the duplicate remote.
There may be a way to change the number on that remote. Open it. If thats true change the number. Then clear all your remotes from the receiver and reenter them again
To clear all remotes stick pin into small hole on wall unit for 5 seconds. The click pin in for 2 seconds and the overhead light will go on. Then hold down one remote ket untill light goes out.
