Rec pool etiquette

I have a question regarding rec centers' pool etiquette which I couldn't find an answer to when I looked at the rules on line. Do you think someone playing music for all to hear is okay at rec pools? I personally would never do it and don't appreciate being subjected to it, especially when I'm looking to have peaceful read on a lounge chair by the pool. I found this happens at the beach too, even had people do it on a tennis court up north. Thoughts?

No, I don't think it is OK. There are so many good options in headphones now, keep your musical preferences to yourself.

DH uses earphones on the rare occasion he watches TV late in the lanai.

I find the music offensive and it was a large part of my decision to put in a pool. The only thing worse were the super loud talkers in the rec pool.

I too think it's inappropriate to impose your music on others. Many, including me, go there to read and do not like unnecessary sounds.

I like to read by the pool too. Hubby likes heavy metal at full volume with sub woofers but not by the pool. I like classical myself. Many types of music simply irritate me.

Glad to hear I'm not alone to find it inappropriate. Has anyone ever asked the owner of the music to put the volume down?

I also think it’s a selfish habit but I’d be hesitant to ask them to turn it down unless you know it’s a reasonable person you’re dealing with.

I wear earplugs when I swim. They’re very comfortable and cut out most, not all, outside noise. The ones I use are a gel-like material that come in a pack of, I think, eight pairs. They’re available in the pharm department at Publix, Walmart, CVS, etc.

Good luck.

They have to talk loud to be heard over the music.

I would ask them nicely to tone it down

They play the VLS radio station at the country club pool. Usually I'm fine with it, and since it's "piped in" there's really nothing you can complain about, and no one to complain to.

At the nearest rec pool, sometimes the regulars will have a radio playing, but it's never very loud. It's always a music station, never country, and never rap. So I'm fine with it.

If you are at a rec center pool, there is always someone in the rec center, you can speak to the person on duty and if they think you have a legitimate issue, they will deal with it.

And isn't ironic that the louder the music, louder the talkers which leases to louder music which leads to louder talkers. You see the cause and effect.

I have and she did, grudgingly.

Pool etiquette

One of the many reason I put in a pool. Loud talking about illnesses, where to eat, and politics kept me from enjoying a leisurely read and occasional dip.
