The Village Rockers
 

Prior to our visit to the Villages this past November, I inquired about hobby level musicians. One of the 20 or so responses was from a gentleman, rockandroller, who stated that an application to form a new club called the Village Rockers was, possibly, in the works. Covid, it seems, has some part to play in new clubs forming? Anyway, my wife and I are now seriously considering the move from Georgia to TV, and I was wondering if the Village Rockers has become and official club.

I don’t know the answer, but I’d also be interested.

We signed up months ago and they were to notify us when they got started.

Have not heard anything no idea what their plans are at this point.

They've been trying to get that club going for quite a while now. As you say, Covid has probably delayed the start.

Covid has affected many of the clubs down here. Even though many are still meeting a lot of people don't attend.

My Beatles club is normally open to all musicians and we have a lot of hobby level players. But with the pandemic we are currently limiting the musicians to nine regulars. This week we're going to start allowing musicians to bring acoustic guitars, sit in the audience and play along.

The Thursday morning acoustic guitar club is not meeting. The Tuesday morning Advanced Acoustic Guitar workshop is meeting but attendance is limited.

Hobby level players are pretty much welcome at all of the clubs. As long as you sit and play and acoustic guitar, I believe that you can play with Sparky's Strummers. There are several ukulele clubs that are great. The Hampton Singers have musicians that play along and there is a folk club and bluegrass club.

Once the vaccine has been distributed, the pandemic is under control and things are back to normal you'll have plenty of opportunities to play with other musicians.

Thanks for the responses/updates. I will have to inform my wife about the Beatlemaniacs as she is the big Beatles fan in the family.

Before the pandemic we tried to come weekly as we really enjoyed it.

Waiting for vaccine before we come again

The answer is no, we continue to await word from Villages Rec.

I’d like to add that I showed up with my mandolin and quickly found myself involved in four jams. Apart from a banjo in one and a harmonica in another, they seem to be jams with guitar strummers and an electric bass. If you play fiddle, mandolin, dobro, banjo, at the hobby level, come get involved. It would let us use more of our repertoire of instrumental tunes. And if you can sing well with that high, lonesome tone or a country drawl, you would also be welcome. With daily practice and a weekly opportunity to play with others, you will soon improve.

She can watch us on Facebook Live every Friday morning from 10:00 until noon. She can even request a Beatles song which we will attempt.

Appreciate you taking the time/effort to respond. Just to be clear, we are, my wife and I, still in the process of making a decision to move to the Villages or not. It is activities like these that are most likely to have an effect on our decision.

As I stated, we are still deciding to move to the Villages or not. However, this club and the other music related activities are an important factor for me, personally. We did visit in November and found the Villages a lot more active that our current location, the foothills in northern Georgia. Kind of took us by surprise. If we do move to the Villages, I suspect this group/club would be the first I would inquire about. Thanks for adding the link to your post.

Since there are somewhere around 3,000 clubs you can pretty much be assured of at least a few you will like. Card games, board games, sports participation or just watching, genealogy, history, patriotic, music, dancing of all types, the sciences, many types of exercises and lots of volunteer opportunities are all represented in clubs. Plus there are clubs for things you have never even heard of.
