R I P Charley Pride

I was once on a commercial flight with Charley, his wife and his manager. Very nice man and an incredible voice. I put him right up there with George Jones (my favorite) and a handful of other greats. Charley Pride Has Died At The Age Of 86 | Classic Country Music

One of the best, and a very good baseball player!

I had heard he essentially had to choose between baseball and music; he was that good a ballplayer. Quite a talented guy. I am glad he went with country music!

RIP Charley. A good and talented man who overcame a lot of prejudice.

"American Masters" on PBS did a fine episode on him. Never paid much attention to country artists, but this was fascinating.

Charley appeared at the Ohio State Fair in the early 70's, and I was a state trooper assigned as a member of the security detail where the entertainers performed. Charlie's first show was in the early afternoon and a second show was scheduled 5-6 hours later. Instead of going back to his hotel room, he stayed around for that entire break signing autographs and visiting with the security forces. Just a super human being! RIP Charley, and don't forget to "Kiss an Angel Good Morning".

I liked Charlie Pride and so far this thread has made my day by the replies. Thank you all for the great replies.

I believe his choice was easier due to a shoulder injury. :a040:

Of course it did

Your correct, he and his brothers loved baseball, Charlie and another brother went to minors and played along time. Charlie wasn’t able to continue pitching with arm/shoulder trouble. However he sang and had lots of fun on and off the field! He was part of Texas Rangers ownership. He was an inspiration. Many stories of him will be enjoyed. A great entertainer with humility!

It just so happens that Charley's son Dion--a multi-talented entertainer who sings and plays guitar, piano, drums & bass--is currently scheduled to perform two shows at the Orange Blossom Opry (Home) in nearby Weirsdale on Sunday, January 17th. Showtimes: 230 & 7:00.

Have always loved Charley Pride's voice and songs. We saw him in Branson MO many years ago. He kept singing long after his time, because the audience loved him. He also stayed after and signed anything you wanted him to sign. I had just bought a KISS AN ANGEL GOOD MORNING t-shirt. He signed it and I have never worn it. He was very talented, I am glad he chose music.

Charley also enjoyed his golf! Another good guy gone.
