questions putting up a retractable awning off lanai and sunroom
I am going to install a retractable awning across my screened in lanai and sunroom with windows.
1) does anyone have the construction plans so I know what i am drilling into - so i can get the correct anchors. I have an older azaela model - circa 2005, block/stucco model. 2) anyone know of a good handyman that would know how to install in this type of structure? thanks |
Villages warranty deed office should have the plans.

If it is concrete block, you shouldn't need the house plans. Just buy some good concrete block anchors at Home Depot. Aloha Larry, 561-239-0797, is a good handyman, if he is still in business. I wouldn't use the installers recommended by the awning manufacturer, because they will charge you an arm and a leg to drill a few holes.

OP, be sure to get ARC approval for your project, before you install. Also, you will probably need some additional support or brackets for the section connecting to the birdcage. No idea if this will affect the wind load rating of the birdcage.

We had a 22 ft long awning installed inside our birdcage (no ARC approval needed) this past summer by Authority Home Solutions. 352 351-3642. They were very good with explaining all the options and installation process. A previous poster earlier was spot on with the price.
Understand, that if the awning you are planning to install is outside the birdcage, you WILL need ARC approval before installing. |

Unless you already have the awning, call RK Products, a Sunair Awning dealer (352) 430-4430).
We actually had them install a second awning after we were so pleased with the first one they installed. Whatever you do, spend a little more and get a powered awning! |

Contact Home Warranty. They can probably help get you a copy of the actual relevant plans for your house. There is probably a steel plate and concrete above the open areas. Also I suggest you touch base with Communuity Standards.
