Snowbirds and the COVID-19 Vaccine

I posed a question to the Florida Department of Health as to the Covid-19 vaccine availability for non-residents. Here is their response:

“Yes. Once the COVID-19 vaccine is widely available, non-residents and part-time residents will be eligible to receive the vaccine in Florida. Currently COVID-19 vaccines are strictly limited to certain groups.”

Each can interpret for themselves but the inclusion of “widely available” suggests that I, as a non-resident snowbird and Florida property owner, will have to wait until the vaccine is available to the general public. Guess I may have to return to Ohio if I want to receive the vaccine in the 65+ age group.

What's missing in your post is what are the certain groups that the vaccines are strictly limited to. I would say that these groups do not include anyone in the general public and we will all have to wait whether we are residents or snowbirds, renters, or owners, it's going to be based on age.

That the only age criteria I have seen publicized so far is for those 65 and older. From what I have seen so far, if you are 64, you are grouped in the same category as a 20 year old. I hope after everyone over 65, they start working their way down by age group categories. It appears from everything I have read or heard thus far, Snowbird season will be well over by the time the general population will be able to get the shots.

Let’s just be happy that Operation Warp Speed got us the vaccine way before it was anticipated early on in the Pandemic. Yes there will be ‘blips’ in the vaccination process but remember it’s government agencies working on this so patience, at least early on, is necessary.

My understanding is that, once the 65+ group are being offered the vaccine, there will be no residency requirement. Snowbird, PT resident, FT resident, all will be eligible.
