Mixing Vaccinations (Pfizer/Moderna) and GMR Saferestart
I just got a code to schedule vaccination time by Saferestart. I have already received my first vaccination with Pfizer vaccine; but, GMR was using Moderna. Mixing vaccinations (Pfizer/Moderna) is not recommended. Does Saferestart have Pfizer vaccine for a second injection or should I look elsewhere for a second Pfizer vaccination?

I believe you do not mix the vaccines. Your second shot should be from the same manufacturer as the first. Unless you received your first shot out of state, you should have been told when to return to the site you received your first shot from. Otherwise, I don't know where you would go. GMR does not have Pfizer.

Doesn't GMR use the Moderna Vaccine?

GMR does use the Moderna vaccine. Someone on this forum said Lake County is using Pfizer.

You should have received (or should receive) an appointment for your second shot from the same provider that gave you the first shot. If has been the appropriate number of days (21 or 28) then I would attempt to contact them to ask when and where you should report for that second shot. Earlier this month there was some discussion about whether the vaccines could be mixed. I don't remember the exact details but the general feeling was that they shouldn't be mixed unless there was no other choice. I suspect there are studies going on now to determine whether a booster from the other vaccine would be effective. |
From Cleveland clinic:
According to the CDC, every effort should be made to ensure patients receive the same vaccine for both the first and second dose. This includes things like providing vaccine record cards, recording the information in the patient’s medical records and logging the information in the immunization information system (IIS). That being said, the CDC has stated that in truly exceptional situations, in which the first-dose vaccine cannot be determined or is no longer available, either vaccine may be given at a minimum of 28 days to complete the vaccination series.. |
