TRIM Notice - Sumter County
This is my first year in The Villages. I thought that the county property assessor sent out TRIM notices in August informing people what their property assessment is.
Is this correct? If so, have the TRIM notices been mailed out in Sumter County? To date I haven't received anything. |
Niels... I got mine about a week ago.
I bought at the peak of the market in July 2006 so was kinda, sorta, surprised ( and a little bit pleased) to see my assessed value had gone down about 12% and therefore taxes went down about $300. Since I don't plan to sell for another 30 years the decline in assessed value doesn't bother me too much. Who knows what anything is truly worth these days? I know someone else in your neighborhood who got her notice about the same time I did. Refresh my memory.... did you finish/close on your home in calendar year 2009 or 2010? If 2010 you might only be taxed on the land and not the improved value. |
Thanks for information. I closed on my house on 1/14/10.
I thought the notices would have gone out by now but I didn't see anything yet. |
I also received mine last week.

I'm posting this just for Skip2MySue, so I hope Skip and Sue see it:
I got my TRIM notice from my bathroom scale. Well, that's sorta food related. And it's not true-- but I'm working on it. |
I received my TRIM notice a few days ago.

Thank you for all the replies. Sounds like everyone has received their notice (although a couple of people indicated they just received theirs on Friday).
I think I'll call the assessor's office later this week and speak with them. |
OK, I give up. What is a TRIM notice. Is it the tax bill or what the tax will be?
|
Hi Mr. Bill, TRIM stands for Truth in Millage. It is not a tax bill, and it states, "DO NOT PAY - THIS IS NOT A BILL". The TRIM Notice tells you the taxable value of your property, as determined by your local tax assessor. It also states the local proposed millage rates and the estimated tax to be levied by each taxing authority, such as the county, school board, CDD, etc. In addition, it tells you when and where these authorities will hold public meetings to discuss proposed budgets and set their final millage (tax) rates. Each county in Florida sends a TRIM notice. We received ours two weeks ago from Marion County. Hope this helps. |
Well I called the assessor's office last week. I found out what happened to my TRIM notice. It seems they mailed it to my former address in New York State.
Yes, you were correct Villages 07. Because of when I purchased my property, they only assessed me for the land this year. That was a pleasant surprise. |
