Facebook Marketplace Scam?
I’ve recently been posting items to sell on Facebook Marketplace (getting ready to close on house in Pennsylvania to move permanently in The Villages in June). I listed an item for sale, and received a quick response requesting if the item was still available, which it was.
He said that would like to buy the tool, and asked for my cell phone number, which I did provide him with. I’m a novice with selling goods on FB, and kind of thought this was a bit unusual to immediately ask for my cell number. He did come back to me and stated “I just sent you a code if your post and you are real send me the code then I will call you” I did get the text with the six digit code, but there appeared to be a mix of a foreign language that I wasn’t familiar with in the text. He was pretty insistent on giving him the code, but I just said I wasn’t comfortable on providing him with the code. I never heard back from him. I’m just wondering if anyone ever had this happened to them, if it was truly a scam, and if it was a scam, what would they of gained if I did give them the code back? |
