Dog friendly restaurants??????????
 

We are new to the site and will be visiting this week. My question is since we will be bringing our small dog---Are there any restaurant that accept dogs for outdoor dining?

I may be wrong but I think the law does not allow pets.

In answer to your question, I don't think you can bring a dog to a restaurant even if you are being served outdoors. Or a cat.

I guess will need to leave her home. We are coming from Naples and here most restaurants are pet friendly as long as you eat outside. The decision is made by the proprietor.

Perhaps things have changed. I'm a seasonal resident and not currently in TV. But the following restaurants had "pet friendly" sections on their outdoor patios:

Crispers on CR 466, Cody's and Gators at Lake Sumter Landing. And I'm sure that there are some that I don't know about. I also heard Urban Flats allows pets outside but I'm not sure about that one.

Sorry, I'm not currently in TV, or I'd call around and find out for sure.

BARB! You know I love those furry creatures. I adore puppies of almost every breed. We have kitties but I like those bow wows!

I am waiting to hear Fumar say they are allowed in the restaurant if they are on the menu.

Our pet friendly experience at the Villages
 

Armywrestle, I understand your issue. We take our dog Shelby with us when we travel. We have been to some areas in the country where your dog is accepted as part of the family. On our first visit to the Villages, we rented a golf cart and rode around with our dog on the floor board of the golf cart for about four hours looking at the senery and enjoying the other friendly guest. We were on our way that day to Sanibel Island for a week. We were pleasantly surprised when we stumbled across the Villages. We normally check to make sure it is a pet friendly area before we plan our trips. When we were up in Portland I was surprised how many restaurants and shops had water bowls outside for everyone's pets. We sometimes take our Golden out for a ride in the golf cart with us on evening rides. On this particular day we stopped and walked on the board walk at lake Sumter. We went to TJ Gators and asked for two plates to go and the waitress told us we could eat on the patio with our Golden if she would stay to the outside edge of patio. We were the only people eating outside at that time as it was cool outside. While we were there a few other couples came up and wanted to eat outside. The longer we were there the more crowded it got. I would say of the six couples and families that ate on the patio four of them came up and asked if they could pet our dog. It really made us enjoy our trip that day. Four trips later we bought a house in the Villages. We go to TJ Gators a lot as we like the Conch Fritters and appreciate the opportunity to take our pet when we have her with us. We do not take her with us on all of our visits to TJ's but when we do we have always been welcomed there. I have read on this site some people do not like the idea of a pet being at a resturant. We also respect that point of view and as a compromise if we do have our pet with us we only will sit at the last table furtherest away from anybody. I patronize TJ Gators because they have good food and always make us feel welcomed with our golden when she is with us. We also go to Too Jay's Deli for breakfast and they welcome pets on the patio.

L and L .. When I clicked on Florida, I can't find The Villages on your link. Where is the section relating to TV? I'd love to see a list of dog friendly patios.

Thanks New Peeps. I'm delighted to hear that Too Jay's Deli allows dogs on the patio. (We also sit at the very edge if we take our dogs with us .. we rarely do .. but it's nice to have the option).

When we take our dogs out in public, people usually make a huge fuss over them. The Villages is a really pet-friendly place.

Oh, but stay off Fumar's street. He has a BB gun. :girlneener:

Thanks to all with your suggestions. I really was beginning to feel uncomfortable about bring our dog.

Just a bit of warning to Fumar--she is 14 pound Schnazer by day but at night, if she sees guns, she turns into a killer pitbull!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I may get in trouble for this but here goes.Why would anyone consider bringing their dog to.a restaurant.Don't get me wrong I love dogs but there are places they don't belong . Restaurants,supermarkets,hospitals....common sense ! I have a beautiful German shepherd and love having her with me as often as I can but you won't be seeing her in any establishment where food is sold .I see folks with their dogs in the supermarket & I don't understand why they think this is acceptable!

I too am a dog lover however, I totally agree with Bosoxfan. I do believe that there are places where pets do not belong and food establishments is one. I have not yet witnessed any pets at any of the supermarkets but if that were to happen I really would have to speak to the manager regarding this.

You asked a question "why would people take their dog to a restaurant". I don't normally take my own dogs to restaurants. But I enjoy it when other people do.

Some restaurants do allow dogs in one tiny section of their outdoor patio. The dogs are on the ground and don't make contact with tables or eating utensils. They are usually better behaved than some of the diners, especially during happy hour.

As far as I know, dogs are not permitted in supermarkets, and I never see them there, unless they are Guide Dogs.

My small dog is a registered therapy dog and visits hospitals and is welcome there with open arms. He brings much joy to patients.

I don't understand why people drag tiny babies out to restaurants to be exposed to germs and possibly offend other diners by crying. But it's legal and it's their right. And I guess the parents love that little baby so much it makes them joyful to have the baby on board.

And I guess some people feel that their dogs are like family members.
