Incorporating “garden” bath tub in Master bathroom
 

Hello - I would appreciate wisdom from those who have done this before. We are looking to move to TV, but a big item for me is a “garden” tub. I haven’t found many in existing homes. I have seen some very creative suggestions for new builds in general, from members here. Can you share your ideas on how you think including a tub is possible?

I believe a lot is going to depend on the model home you are looking at, the size of the existing bathroom, etc., you will need to take this into consideration with the replies that will follow my comment. If you would consider a walk-in tub/shower you may have a lot more options. Good luck with your project.

We have the Seabrook model and it comes with the Garden Tub. (I didn't know that is what they called it.) We also have a walk in shower and NEVER use the tub. We have given serious thought to having it removed to make more walk in closet space.

We have a Lantana and it has a deep garden tub. I love my tub for those times of achy muscles. Also use epsom salt which helps me sleep at night.

We remodeled the master bath of a Whispering Pines model to have a garden tub and separate walk-in shower. Our Wilmington came with a garden tub. I totally get the need for a soak. We use ours more than the shower.

I forgot to mention, we put in an outdoor hot tub, set at 102 degrees, it is wonderful for sore achy muscles, and I am sure costs less than the modifications for a new tub. I have been doing my own maintenance for the last 15 or so months with no problems, so my only costs are chemicals and filters. This gets used several times per week, year round.

We are building a Begonia in St Catherine. We enclosed the existing lanai, used part of it to create a master closet then redesigned master bath to use one of the closets as a spot for a jacuzzi tub. The other closet became a pantry with its access flipped to the kitchen side. The new lanai now comes out the side of the house to take advantage of our view.

We had a garden tub in our Williamsburg model loved it until time to get out of it a real challenge for 70 year old seniors.

The older you get the harder is is to get in and out of a garden tub. It just becomes something you clean and never use.

OP if you are planning on a pool anyways you might consider a spillover spa. Spillover spas are in ground and part of (immediately next to) the pool.

Like any spa you lose the bathing Angle. Unlike a standalone spa you (potentially) gain gas and/or solar water heating. I have been in the spa when the air temp is 45, it is quite enjoyable, taking in the pool view while relaxing.

It can be discussed during the design phase in a custom build if that is your question.

Many homes seem have no tub but was a requirement in our case for when grand babies visit. Also handy for washing the dog.
