Moving from WI

I will be moving here from WI in November. Any suggestions from anyone who has made a similar move?

I moved from WI and I used PODS.

I did not make a similar move, but here goes:

Weed out stuff.
Enjoy the moderate winters.
Sell your snow blower.
Have the time of your life.

If you're an early riser, (7:30-8:00) you might want to keep your ice scrapper.

I for one, wait for the melt!

Talk to a number of companies for price. Be sure to know each's company estimate of weight and to understand the insurance offered.
The time of the month may affect your costs. If you have flexibility ask if a different date will save you money.
Know what will happen if the house you are moving into is not ready. Probably local storage but best to have worked out the details in advance.

Welcome to The Villages!

Although I have not used either, here are two interesting DIY type container moving solutions:

PODS: http://www.pods.com/Moving.aspx

UPACK: http://www.upack.com/

We moved from WI early June. Best thing we ever did. I can tell you which moving company not to use. contact me mjroemer@comcast.net. Get rid of as much stuff as you can. Especially china, chairs, tables, clothes etc. In other words, we brought to much and now have boxes in closets, garage etc. We had 4 rummages, sold antique stuff gave a lot to Goodwill and we still over did it. Bring a little more money that you think you will spend. To get settled, it costs a bit more. After settling in, things even out pretty much. Example is Florida charges $450 dollars + to get Florida license plates. Set ups for utilities is a little more tha WI. When you get here, keep checkingin with TOTV. Many helpfull ideas are written after you arrive. Good luck and I hope you don't get a flat tire like we did and your moving van arrives on time, not 2 days.
