Xfinity Internet Price Increase
 

Xfinity just raised my monthly price for internet from $39.95 to 55.95 which I calculate as a whopping 40%. One year ago I was paying $19.95. I wonder what happened to the modest 10% price hikes. Are there any alternatives? I use YoutubeTV for my TV viewing which is now about $73 per month. I think Xfinity wants me to consider a bundled package - internet + Cable TV? I really do not know of any options?

It sounds like your Xfinity contract expired and they removed the contract discounts you had been receiving. I would read your contract by logging into xfinity.com to see when it expired. You can also view the contract discounts on one of your older detailed bills. Then, contact Xfinity and start another 1 year or 2 year contract. Depending on the internet speed you want, you should be able to get an internet only contract for much less than you are currently paying.

Bundling TV and internet is one way Xfinity combats these streaming services. I remember when YTTV was $35 and had regional sports, now it's like $70 without regional sports. T-Mobile launched home internet recently and they already raised it $10. It's all a business game.

With the younger generation live TV is dying, these people are all hooked on Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, ESPN+, HBOMax, etc. Nobody wants to watch excessive amounts of commercials anymore.

I'm paying the same amount of money with a bundled Xfinity plan as I would buying a Streaming service and stand alone internet.

The store recently told us to come in a month before end of contract and we would get a discount.

They seem to reward existing customers by making them pay more for services if they do not complain

I wouldn't refer to it as complaining or rewarding existing customers. Every customer gets a discount if they agree to a 1 or 2 year contract instead of paying month to month. So, customers who elect to pay month to month are going to pay more for the service. When the contract expires, the contract discounts are automatically removed unless you agree to a new contract. That's just the way it works.

When we went to the store they basically told us even with a new contract expect a large increase unless they have a special the month before and January is a good month for specials.

OP, before you complain, I would suggest you go to Xfinity.com, sign in, click on "My Account", "Settings", "Legal Agreements and Contract", and view your contract. This will tell you when your contract expires. If your last bill is showing any monthly discounts, these discounts will automatically be removed when the contract expires. If your current contract has recently expired, then that will explain why your monthly bill increased. It will also give you information to discuss with Xfinity, if you want to start a new contract.

I have been playing the “call Comcast/Xfinity yearly game” for over 10 years now. Currently paying $40/mo ( $50 less $10 for CG auto pay) for speed of 120. I was told by a helpful Comcast Representative years ago to call on the 28th to the last day of the month prior to your contract expiration to re-negotiate. Always tell them you have an alternative such as Century Link or Spectrum you’re considering. Worked for me for a lot of years so next renewal we’ll see what happens.

Just cancel your service and start new under a different email and/or name (wife, partner, dog, cat). Been doing that for probably 30 years between DirecTV, Fios & Comcrap. My Comcrap just "started over" a few weeks ago for the 3rd time since moving down here. Don't waste time or energy dealing with them, do it all online. And to make it easier never use an @comcast.net email for yoursef, just use gmail or wahoo or whatever.

I just spoke to Comcast this afternoon because my internet bill for next month went from $50 to $76. I had absolutely no problem reducing it back to $50 and that was with a bump from 200Mbps to 400Mbps. My advice is always to be nice on the phone, ask for help, and typically you get what you want (or something close).

P.S. I did hear that Stuville is getting free internet service. :bigbow:

I switched to Verizon for wifi, only $20 a month.

That is the Village of Stu. People who keep messing up the name will be banned for 10 years or life whatever comes first.
