Lawn Irrigation Questions

I have some questions regarding lawn irrigation systems:

1. Do most new homes have the irrigation systems already installed or is that an after close item that the buyer would need to do?

2. Do the irrigation systems use a separate water meter or do they use the same meter as the rest of the house?

3. If the same meter is used for both the house and irrigation, is there some allowance for sewage charges to take into account for the lawn watering?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

"all" homes have irrigation.
most homes use reclaimed water

Homes south of 466 all use reclaimed water but I’ve been told north of 466, they use the regular potable water.

In you’re district, several district’s don’t use reclaimed irrigation water.

I live north of 466 and we use potable water for irrigation. I think every home in the villages has irrigation put in when built, it is likely a requirement of the developer. There were some good posts by people south of 466 showing their situation.

The OP inquired about "new homes" in his post. All new homes being built are south of SR44, and they all include irrigation systems. The irrigation systems have a separate meter, and use reclaimed water. The hose bibs on the outside of the homes, however, use the same potable water as inside the home. Water used for irrigation is not calculated into the sewer charge.

As for metering, those homes that use two separate water supplies, each has a different meter.

Usage if each is detailed on your monthly bill.

Also, if your irrigation usage is considered unusual, you will get a call. Our usage was double one month. A sprinkler head had broken, and we had quite a geyser in the yard. Fortunately, a neighbor had also let us know, coincidentally the same day we got the call from The Villages. The head was located on the side of our house, out of view. Also, ran early in the AM, so not many up to see it.

Worth a periodic check to make sure all is in order.

North of 466 use city water and no compensation for sewer fees

Thank you all for the feedback!

So much misinformation. For homes between 466 and 466A the irrigation water for homes comes from an aquifer that is not suitable for drinking. It is NOT reclaimed water. The golf courses do use reclaimed water that has been treated in the treatment plant and is very near potable quality. This is mixed with rain water and held in the retention ponds. This is based on materials provided by The Villages. I can not speak to the areas north of 466 nor south of 466A but I recommend you contact the District offices and ask them rather than relying on what I or others have said here.

Just curious, do you have a home in the villages and live there and your not sure if you have irrigation?

Before you one year warranty is up, call the installer and have him/ her come and check it out and explain the system to you

What is the situation with all the new homes being built over in the original part of the V's by Orange blossom country club... took a ride through, some really nice homes being built there but have no idea if they automatically put in irrigation or if that is an "extra" ?
