Beware of PTL Lawn Care
 

We were searching for a new lawn care company and saw the ad for PTL which seemed liked they offered good services. I checked this site and found a good review. They came out and Matt was very good. He came back the next day and pulled some weeds out of the lawn, did a treatment, and the next week they started the mowing. Oh, Boy...what a disaster. They blew grass clippings into the landscape, left piles of grass clippings all over the yard, did not blow off the walk, patio, or driveway, left grass tracks off their mower over the walk and driveway, and then left the gate open (we have pets) . In the areas too small for their mower, they used a weed eater and scalped the grass. They even had grass clippings in my neighbor's landscape rock. I talked to the guys mowing and asked for them to blow off the grass clippings, etc, etc. They never did. I came home one day to a real mess and called and cancelled the service. They said I couldn't as it is a year contract which I never signed because they had never sent the paperwork. We went on vacation and, after firing them, they still sent their people to mow. I paid their invoice for 2 months of service in full for which I was billed and now they are saying the monthly fee is higher since I didn't sign a contract....which wasn't stated on the initial estimate papers they gave me. Now they are threatening to turn me over to collections if I don't pay the extra amount. What a poorly managed company. So just a warning for anyone considering hiring their services....I would reconsider... And this is after hiring Sunscape last year for some work and anyone reading this site knows how they did all their customers. Does anyone know how I go about filing a complaint against both these companies???

I can think of at least three ways - three places - you can go to report these companies.

First, just this week there was an article on The Villages Daily Sun about a new site, and a new facility, of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services where you can go online and either file a complaint or check on a company or a license. Second, you can file complaints online with the Better Business Bureau. Same deal, you can check out companies and file complaints online. Their URL is http://centralflorida.bbb.org/Find-Business-Reviews/.

Lastly, here is The Villages, Seniors Vs Crime has two offices - one in the Sumter Sheriff's Office on 466 and one in the Marion Sheriff's Office on Mulberry Lane. You can go to either office to file complaints. They are only open certain days so call first to make sure they are open - 753-2799 for Sumter and 753-7775 for Marion.

In support of PTL- I have used this company over 4 years for Pests, lawn treatments and lawn maintenance and have never had a problem with work done by them. I have referred them to friends and neighbors many times and stand behind them 100%

The office staff is always friendly and they always get back to me in a timely manner.

Not sure what happened or why but I want people to know that they do a great job in most cases.

We have used PTL for 3 years for all our lawn service and maintenance,they also do my inside and outside pest control. Anytime we have had a concern they have been very prompt in returning our calls and have always been polite and very efficient at taking care of any problems.

Sorry you had this bad experience and I hope it is just an isolated case. We have also had problems with various service providers but so far PTL has done a great job.

File a complaint with Crimes against Seniors.

PTL can be very good or very bad and sometimes just so-so. It all depends who is working your area. I don't really like any company that requires a 12-month contract and won't let you out when the service is poor. Even so, if someone wants a full-service lawn maintenance program, I do recommend them over Massey's or KB. I'm sorry you have had such a miserable experience with them.

PTL has been doing our pest control, lawn mowing and lawn care since we moved to TV in July 2008. We have been on a month to month agreement for lawn mowing. But this year compared to the others has been poor for the mowing. As previously stated we would find large clumps of grass in the landscaping, sidewalks, driveway etc and a couple of times mentioned it to the guys doing the work. The next week it would be the same old, so we fired them from cutting our lawn just last week. The first two years the mowers did a great job but this year we had two new folks working for PTL. If I am paying someone to do the job then I do not want to have to clean up after them, besides there are quite a few other folks looking to do the job too.

Sorry you had problems with the lawn cutting. I did too and told PTL about it and they sent another crew out. I told the new crew about the problems and all has been well so far. All in all, I have been very satisfied with their service - this was the exception.

We also had been very happy with their service up until this year. But after telling the workers twice about our concerns and having the issues continue we opted to shop around. When we called the office to tell them we were dropping them and why PTL told us they would have the area supervisor come see us in the next day or two because they did not want to lose a valued customer. Well he never showed or called.

You're correct about Sunscape. They did a terrible curbing job for us and promises after promises to perform warranty. Well ater a year, Suncape never came back. Let me know how you file a claim and I will join you.
