Fenney / Quarry

Does anyone have accurate data on how far (as the crow flies) the Dixie Quarry is from the homes in Fenney? We spoke with a Villages real estate rep, and understand that Dixie has four future(?) blasting sights, three of which are closer to Fenney than where they currently blast. The rep mentioned that The Villages purchased one of those three blasting sights, but not sure of which one. When I look at the satellite map, it appears that one of the three future(?) blasting sights may only be about 3K-4K feet away from The Village of Fenney. It would also be interesting to hear from people who have had foundation cracks occur from the blasting. How about any in ground pool cracking? Please feel free to reply with any corrections to my post. Just doing due diligence before making real estate decisions. Feel free to make a general post or to PM me with your information. Thank you!

The new homes are not close to there. Those were built two or three years ago. People who live in Fenney have always said it isn't an issue. I read this forum carefully and have a good memory.

We have lived in Fenney since they started selling homes here in 2017, no one that I know of has any cracks or damage from the occasional blast which is once every 4 to 6 weeks and lasts about 2 seconds, also never heard of any cracks in pools including all of the Family and rec. center pools down here. A couple years ago it was noted in the paper that the company bought land further west of their current location that they will be excavating next, that is further from Fenney than it is now. That being said it will most likely be a little closer to the village of Hammock which is west of the Red and Gray fox golf courses and still under construction.

You seem quite concerned about this. If you choose to live there, would you always be concerned? Just something to think about. TV is very large with lots of great places to live.

Also note that they are blasting soft porous limerock . Not the hard stone you might find north of Florida. It does not transmit the energy of a blast like granite would. Actually, the stone is too soft to use as aggregate in concrete. That is imported from up north.

You can measure it down to foot using Google earth, look for the little ruler at top left icons. Tap on it and cross hairs will appear. Move the crosshairs where you want or start measuring. Click/tap now move crosshairs to where you want measurements to end. To bottom left you screen you can chose what increments you want to measure? Feet, yards, miles.

I have some experience with the proximity of million-dollar homes to the quarry that supplied the stone for the concrete and the stone dust that went under the pavers and the stone that constructed the French Drains and the overburden dirt that filled in humongous ditches in the common areas. Oh, and the stone to pave the streets.

The explosions that were set off for a hundred years before the houses were built and the explosions that were set off after the homes were built caused a grand total of zero known problems. The houses near this particular N.J. Quarry had full basement's and still no problems. I can't see why there would be any problem with these supervised blasts near the Quarry close to Fenney.

I'm so sure of it that I wouldn't hesitate to purchase a home there. It's beautiful.

Urban Legend about the blasts. IMHO

Google Maps

IMO Goggle earth is better can measure down to inches. How so I know this? I manually measured my house corner to corner. When to Google earth using the tools and measured my house in same location was within 6 inches when I measured corner to corner and compare it to my manual measurements. I concluded that I misplaced the crosshairs due to you can only get so close on Google earth.

Close and some people have moved due to the blasting.

Debbidoo 03-27-2021 05:19 AM

Some people have noticed problems with window seals, but is it from the blasting?

Mrprez 03-27-2021 05:26 AM

It happens so infrequently that we are always surprised and say “what was that”. Nonissue.

Quarry

Backing up to Fenney , it the Coleman prison. They own the land up to 470 . Then directly on the other side of the street on 470 is the Quarry. They also have one on the same side. Either way, It’s 5 miles by roads so much shorter by way of the crow flies .

I live down here and it has absolutely no effect on our life and I’ve not heard one person mention it except on this forum.....not one...

I do not consider myself a conspiracy theorist, but your inquiry foments a plausible degree of “discontent”.

If I were a conspiracy theorist, I would question your true intentions by bringing up such an issue. But, I am not, so I will absorb what others have written in response and continue with my day.
