Re-Color and seal existing floor tile
 

Has anyone re-colored and sealed their floor tile grout? I see there area number of products available to accomplish this. I would prefer to have a company or someone to come to my home. Suggestions appreciated.

There is a product called Grout Shield that will do this. I used it to MATCH existing grout and we were very happy with the result. Not to difficult to apply, I did our entire house including both bathrooms in 2 weeks 2 to 3 hours at a time, moving furniture as needed. The cost was very low, around $60 per kit, I bought 2 and only needed one.

I second the product Grout Shield. The company started years ago in NY, and I used it there...they since moved to Ft. Myers and I have used them also more recently. Great product, good family company.

If you contact them they may have a local contact who would apply this....but it is pretty easy to use yourself...or just buy the kit, pick the color and then find someone to do it for you....it is a very easy and rewarding project.

Thanks for the lead. Since you have used this what are your recommendations for easily applying to the grout lines? Some have suggested a baby tooth brush or replacing the cap on the grout color bottle with an Elmers Glue cap. Suggestions appreciated.

They typically send you a nice brush with their kit. The handle is slightly curved and a bit stronger than a toothbrush. You can see it on their website. There is no need at all to change the top of the bottle. The tip they send works perfectly. Sometimes you may need to open the hole back up a bit with a toothpick as it sometimes gets a little clogged from use. Hope this helps!

The only thing I did different was to use a bathroom shower squeegee instead of the sponge, which I felt worked much better. Send me a PM with contact info if you would like to discuss further. I agree with Franks comments also.

Pressure washer ?

I just had my tile done by Groutsmith. The tile looks like new. The grout is actually painted with an acrylic that matches the original color. I did discover that after cleaning and sealing, I had grout that had actually cracked and was missing. Groutsmith is coming back out to remove this grout and apply new grout. The cost to do this is extra. GroutSmith, 352-296-7813.

My neighbor used All About Grout and it looks stunning! They cleaned the tile and painted the grout on their hands and knees. Still looks perfect after 3 years.

Highly recommend All About Grout, Brian Jayne (352)801-6595. They did mine last summer and it looks great! Expect to wait a bit because they may be booked out for several months. Worth the wait, however.

Does anyone know about how often it is necessary to reseal your grout? My whole home is tile so it would be a big job. Maybe only necessary to do the bathrooms/showers more frequently.

This depends on the product that was used to originally seal the grout. I made the BIG mistake of using a "20 year" product there was a "511 grout sealer" which we applied to the entire house before we moved in. 3 years later, the grout in the kitchen was really dirty and could not be cleaned. I complained to the company and was told 'the sealant is only good for 2 years in heavy traffic areas', this is NOT stated anywhere in the product or instructions. We redid the entire house with Grout Shield and this appears to be a much better product and much longer lasting.
