Beautiful bird!

Badass! He’s wearing his red cap backwards.

Great picture! What ever happened to supposedly sighting’s of ivory billed in Arkansas about 10 or so years ago? Use to have Pileated woodpeckers visit my blackjack oaks in Oklahoma.

Thanks for sharing this beautiful photo. Interestingly, the pileateds mate for life. Where we used to live, a single pair returned at the same time each year, to feast among our tall pine trees. After about 8 or 9 annual visits, one year the female didn't come back. Each year thereafter, the male returned alone.

As always, a great photograph. Thanks. We had this woodpecker in NH and were amazed to see it on a pine in our back yard here.

If he wanted a permanent home, he should have checked out a newer tree 😀

Thank you it's so nice to have a non-political non idiotic post once in awhile that does not complain about a plumber or a restaurant or a stupid gnome on a lawn

Actually, it was the male that survived. And he never did "re-mate". I guess the "Casserole Brigade" hadn't caught up with him...LOL
