Lifted Club Car Scrapes Roof going Through Tunnels?
 

About to buy and then heard this. Anyone have any experience with this?

North of 466 the tunnels have less clearance. I have to aim down the middle to prevent my Yamaha 4 seater from scraping. South of 466 is no problem.

Not personal experience, because we didn't modify our golf carts. But I've seen pictures of carts stuck in the tunnels, having to be pulled out with a winch because the carts were wedged in tight.

Do yourself a favor and just stick with the manufacture's standard height. Even an inch too much, is an inch too much.

When we bought our club car (it is a 2015) I wanted to upgrade from 8 to 10 inch tires and the salesman at Villages Golf Carts told me it wouldn’t be a problem. When I drove the cart home from the store I quickly realized it would be a problem since the tires were rubbing inside the wheel wells every time I hit a bump or turned the wheel sharply. Instead of going back to 8 inch wheels, I decided to put in a two inch lift kit to make room for the larger tires. The lift kit makes the cart look rather sharp and unique, but stiffened up the ride. The club car is now about an inch higher than our Yamaha. Our Yamaha has never scrapped a tunnel, but the front passenger side edge of the club car roof can just barley scrap the rounded edge of the tunnels north of 466 off of Buena Vista Blvd. if we are not careful to enter/exit the tunnel toward the middle.

The strangest tunnel event I witnessed was the person that was coming home (presumably from a big box store) with a good sized Christmas tree tied to the roof of their golf cart. It didn’t work out well when they hit the tunnel.

A modest lift, 3" or less and 22" or smaller tires, without an extended roof, will typicall work for most tunnels north of 466. You will have to be careful to swing wide entering and exiting.

We barely make it through some tunnels without a lift so I would never lift mine but you see a few that did.

I don’t see the point? Higher the cart the more top heavy and tippy?

Any suggestions for those drivers of standard height carts as they try to evade those with the jacked-up height carts as they "swing wide" on tunnel exits /entrances, or drive down the dead center of the passage? (Hope I'm not irritating any of our "entitled" citizens.)

Guess it was easier to carry the remains of the tree inside their house.
