Car insurance for people over 80

My brother who is 81 is paying $1200 per year for car insurance on an 8 year old Kia Soul. Does anyone know of a source for car insurance that doesn't surcharge older driver's? His premium took a big jump up when ge turned 80.
Thanks

Hmmm...eyesight getting poorer, reflexes almost nil, mental state + ability to focus...always on the decline. So no insurance company will give a good rate unless the deductable is very high. And why would they as the chance of an accident increases with age...especially in their 80's.

1-800-423-0567. Hartford insurance, we are not in 80's BUT our auto insurance dropped by 50% from Geico. Friends have found this to be true also.

Is that $1200 per year or for 6 months? If it is for a year, the rate sounds pretty reasonable. A lot of younger people pay more than that. The age of the car has very little to do with the rate.

One way to reduce your auto insurance in Florida is to drop the uninsured motorist coverage. It is mandatory in many states, but optional in Florida. In my opinion, it is redundant with heath insurance and not worth paying for it. Some people incorrectly think it provides liability coverage. It doesn't.

For a year. Less than $500

It depends a lot on how much liability coverage you have, but the average cost for auto insurance in Florida is more than $1200 per year. I pay about $1100 per year for Allstate with an excellent driving record and a very high liability coverage. But, I was surprised that, when I traded in a 13 year old car for a similar new car, my insurance rate actually went down by a small amount. I have shopped around, but haven't found substantially cheaper coverage.

Uninsured coverage pays an insured amounts an uninsured motorist would owe the insured for their injuries. While your medical bills may be paid, what's a lifetime injury worth that prevents you from doing things such as golfing or dancing. Worst case scenario what if an insured is killed? UM coverage steps in pays what the UM would owe.

Too many uninsured motorists in Florida and the fact they aren't insured is indicative as to how responsible they are. This coverage protects you for much more than medical bills and is something you need to have.

I understand your point, but I don't agree. Most people, who have UM insurance, only have coverage of $10,000 or $25,000 per person. And, most UM claims are for medical bills, not "pain and suffering". So, basically you are buying insurance for medical bills when you already have full medical coverage. It's redundant. And, if you have UM coverage, your auto insurance company becomes your primary health care insurer, not Medicare. This can create a issue with getting the medical treatment you need because Medicare cannot pay until the auto insurance claim is filed. Regarding "pain and suffering", you would probably need to sue your own insurance company to collect it. And, if you only have $10,000 or $25,000 in coverage, how many lawyers are going to be interested in suing a large insurance company when the maximum payout is so low? The lawyer would end up with half of the money anyway. That is why I purchase a large liability amount and no uninsured motorist coverage at all.

I saw no big jump in my bill when I turned 80( I’m now 82) and because I consolidated my new home and car , my bill went down this month . I suspect the problem is with a combination of age and an older vehicle with none of the new safety measures. I agree with others who have said if it’s a year policy it’s not bad , o also agree with the other guy about age , reflexes, and eyesight . I should be paying more but I’m not, but don’t worry I’ll only be on the road for 4 maybe 5 years , that’s when I’ll be back to Boston , that’s been the plan since I came to Florida . I’m not dying in the sun , I prefer to walk everywhere , and see people on the sidewalks of all ages and if I get health issues ( none yet) I can be treated at Massachusetts General Hospital

Kia soul insurance

Drop the collision on an 8 year old lesser priced car. Go with just PL and PD.
The removal of collision will reduce the insurance cost quite a bit.
If that vehicle is totaled, after deductible, the payout from the insurance company for it would be a couple thousand at max.

That can’t be for full coverage. That must be for just liability only, no collusion, no comprehensive.
