for the foreseeable future. They have some decent greens, but if you look closely they are all becoming over grown with another grass(someone suggested poa annua)that blossoms later in the day up on the northern greens that use them.

A shame as they are fun courses to play.

When I read the title of your posts, I thought the cancel culture was going after the names of the course because the two namesakes did something to offend somebody a long time ago. Glad to hear the problem is that the greens need some tender loving care.

I hope that you are saying that they are in fact closed; they should be!!! Just another example of poor management of the exec courses. and god knows we don't need any more closures to make it even harder to get tee times!!!

Poa is a nightmare if you don't stop it in time. Produces billions of tiny seeds that are carried by the wind and spread everywhere. No specific herbacide works; you need to kill all the grass and start over again. Or, just mow every day during the season to keep it at the same height as the other grasses. All the Poa will turn yellow and die out soon, and many will think the problem is "over". But it will return in the Spring (or possibly this Fall) and be worse than it is even now.

So sad. Love these courses.

Poa is also called annual bluegrass. It will soon turn yellow, seed, then die out. It will look even worse during this period, almost as if the greens are dying. Then it will go away and nice summer grasses will dominate. But the cycle will return when the weather gets cooler.

Then how does Oakmont and Pebble Beach maintains their wonderful Poa greens year round?

Once again, please direct all your complaints to the man that is in charge of executive course maintenance. Mitch Leininger at mitch.leininger@districtgov.org According to him, all the course are in great shape and no one ever complains!

Their greens are 100% Poa and they mow them every day and water them during the day when the weather gets hot. Don't expect The Villages to do the same. A 100% Poa green can make for a wonderful putting surface. Patches of Poa in a green with other grass is a nightmare.

Too much attention to new revenues vs upkeep of exec courses
 

Same song, different verse. The Villages ownership has the priority of making even more money than they have. Build more houses; make more money. Forget about the upkeep of the exec golf courses -- they are expenses, not revenue.

Once again, I refer to the wonderful condition at Amberwood, Yankee Clipper and Palmetto for example. Even with the villages profit motive, I think it's more of the maintenance crew's dedication to their job than the budget. Havana and Palmer crews are, based on many of your response, responsible for bad greens on Pimlico/Churchill/Belmont and Truman/Roosevelt IMO

Wow! Things do go south quickly. To those who obviously don't know it....foreign plants invade. Borne on the swing or as bird poop.

The cost vs. maintenance crew cost...it's gone up. To the poa going dormant = so does the Bermuda on the tee, fairways, approaches and greens. The answer was always overseed with a winter rye. Even the Masters does this to a smaller extent. The Villages Golf quit doing this the year we were short on water in the retention ponds. The overseed was a disaster and the next year they did one Champ course..not real good. So they stopped...and what you see for poor greens, fairways and tees. This is their choice...to our detriment. So what to do? Well you get an intelligent group of perhaps 6 men and women together with cost analysis background. Then you get the financial data from the management of courses cost breakdown and then get the cost for making it look and play better(ie: overseed and enough watering).

The cost of maintaining the executive courses falls to the AAC and PWAC. This is your amenity fees in action. In this case YOU are “The Villages” ownership.

We love about everything about The Villages. That’s why we moved here.
We also have no resentment that the Developer makes a profit. If they didn’t, none of us would be here.
