You will need to provide more information. Under 65? Over 65? If over 65, then will you have a Villages Advantage plan or traditional Medicare?

OP, contact SHINE, SHINE - Home for unbiased info on health info specifically Medicare and supplemental versus Medicare Advantage plans (I am assuming you are 65 or over). The Villages Health system is somewhat confusing, so do your due diligence, we had to change back from Advantage plan to Medicare and supplemental. Also, there are very specific limits on when and how you can change back.
Finally, you can use any of the Villages Health System SPECIALISTS if you are on Medicare and a supplemental plan, what you cannot do is use a VHS doctor for your Primary Care Physician, yes confusing.
There have been many threads and comments on both sides of this issue if you search this site.

If you really need all those doctors, move to Jacksonville, or better yet move to Baltimore.

Totally uncalled for.

Total Care

The very best care is Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. It is a 2 and 1/2 hour drive but worth every mile to get the best to protecti you. It is critical to get accepted as a patient which means going and getting a patient number. Once you get the number you can be a
patient of the many various clinics. They are state of the art medical care and your life is worth it. Regarding the Villages. There are a number of Urgent Care facilities in case you have a immediate need and there are few good general Dr's who you can use for annual
check ups, BUT if you need anything of a serious nature, including hospitalization, get to Mayo. Your life is worth it.

What is the process for getting a patient number at Mayo? My husband tried to get in last year and was turned away.

I don't believe so. I speak from experience.

Insurance

Florida Blue, Plan F. You can go where you want and feel comfortable that all Medical Bills will be paid after Medicare. The only ones not reimbursed are ones which Medicare does not pay and in the many years we have had Florida Blue only $36 were rejected by Medicare. :bigbow:

With all due respect, you’re probably better off where you are currently living. I have found medical care in The Villages and surrounding areas deficient. Contract Drs and nurses are often brought in when the seasonal bubble hits and you can spend hours in the ER waiting to be see even if it’s a cardiac issue. But good luck to you.
