Fully vaccinated seniors are 94 percent less likely to be hospitalized
https://www.washingtonpost.com/healt...cting-seniors/
New data showing that fully vaccinated seniors are 94 percent less likely to be hospitalized with COVID. The new results come from a real-world CDC analysis that measured the effectiveness of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines in 417 adults aged 65 and older. In addition to the strong protection offered by two doses, the analysis also found that partially vaccinated seniors were 64 percent less likely than unvaccinated seniors to be hospitalized. Unlike the clinical trials for both vaccines, this analysis took place during the spread of new, highly transmissible variants and provides reassuring evidence about the continued effectiveness of vaccines. Roughly 69 percent of all Americans aged 65 and older are now fully vaccinated. |

Here's an interesting link that the Anti-Vaxxers should be aware of... they will weeded out by one or the other Survival of the Fittest vs. Natural Selection |
The refusenicks will turn it around and say "only 6% of unvaccinated seniors are likely to need hospitalization, so it's not enough of a problem for anyone to be worried about."
Of course - once one of them is shifted into that 6% minority, I'm sure they'll just blame it on the failed ACA and government conspiracies - rather than acknowledging that they rejected science. |

Then let me say that I do not think all people have the same reasons to not get vaccinated. I also think that bundling people together and saying what you think is their motivation is not accurate nor is it kind. I will close by saying that isn't a very big group to be making statements about, BUT I think a bigger group would tell us the same thing. Vaccinations against Covid-19 are working. Thank heavens for that. And the scientists, men AND women and those who are gender non specific. (I still think of people as men or women, but I try with all of my heart to see other's points of view and to try to understand their anguish.) |
And over 99.9% ( I made that number up, it is meant to be "vast majority) of those vaccinated will not die if they do catch it.

The high Vaccination rate on Sumter is having impact. Here's the Florida vs Sumtrer infection and hospitalization rate.

Great news! Personally I felt relief and some joy after my second shot took complete effect.

Sounds like around the same numbers before the vaccine,

Is that why fully vaccinated people are still being urged to wear masks?

Obviously, not many on here have read the book regarding how to make friends and influence people. Guess I am just as guilty. However, does anyone on here REALLY think that they will convince anyone by SHAMING them? I have children and grandchildren that have announced that they will NOT be getting vaccinated. Even though I was hesitant in the beginning to get my shots, I still ended up convincing myself that I was doing this for my spouse. Then I started encouraging the family to get their shots, but I did NOT push them or shame them. Why? Because they had reasonable to good reasons to refuse it. AND, since we still do not know the long term effects of the shots, despite the mostly positive information gained so far, I did not want to push them into something that I might be responsible for causing them possible harm. All of them have tested positive for Covid and survived the virus, shrugging it off like a minor cold. Now they have anti-bodies and a valid reason for not getting their shots. Of course, some will argue that too.
What is the motivation for those on here SHAMING folks for not getting their shots? Is it with the purpose of wanting/needing to return to a normal life? Some on here suggest that masks and distancing should continue indefinitely. Is it because you are scared that your vaccine will NOT protect you from the infected? I do not believe the mantra of "patriotic duty" at all, when it comes to some on here suggesting that as everyone's "duty." I believe that a lot of the posters on here are just as guilty of "me,me,me" as the ones they ostracize. You won't convince anyone by slamming them for your opinion that they are WRONG to refuse the vaccine. The OP is right in producing already known information to reinforce a good reason for obtaining the vaccination. Whether the virus is weakening or the vaccine is working, I think we can now see some light at the end of the tunnel. Personally, I have changed my lifestyle very little, but ALL of us have been affected by this thing in some manner. Weighing all the information I can find, I think that the vaccines available are safe. I cannot guarantee that they are safe, but I felt safe enough for my wife and me to get the shots. I sincerely hope that others are diligent in doing their own research and do not allow opinions to be the sole reason for getting or refusing to get their vaccinations. Availability is no longer an issue. There is a surplus of vaccine now and anyone over 16yo can get inoculated. |
Byte1 - fully agree with you.
I respect those who chose not to be vaccinated and hope they do the same for those who do. I also know a number of people who had COVID and suffered no more than a bad case of the flu. Fortunately everyone I know survived. However a couple of young, strong, healthy people I know are now long haulers suffering effects from microembolisms causing reduced lung capacity and reduced mental capacity the remainder of their lives. From my perspective, the vaccine reduces the risk of serious disease to no more than the flu. But I will still minimize the risk and mask up indoors until the infection rate is at levels not spreading the disease. |
I heard that there were 5,814 people who tested positive for COVID-19 after they were vaccinated. That was 85 million people vaccinated. They also said that the COVID-19 cases were not severe. If that’s not fake news, then the vaccination is 99.99% effective, and 0.01% not effective.
If it’s not being done now, it should be done, when the numbers of infections are reported, and the numbers of hospitalizations and deaths are reported, on a daily basis, how many tested positive, hospitalized, and died that were vaccinated, and not vaccinated. That would give you that information on a daily basis, and would probably encourage more people to get vaccinated. The numbers are already distorted because they count the COVID-19 deaths “from COVID-19” or “with COVID-19”. “With COVID-19” means that you died from something else, but happened to test positive for COVID-19, and are counted as a COVID-19 death. There was a prominent example of that in Minnesota, where an vehicle accident occurred. The person was thrown from the vehicle, probably not wearing a seat belt. That person died from the vehicle accident. But that person happened to be COVID-19 positive, and was counted as another COVID-19 death! The COVID-19 deaths should only be counted if they are “from COVID-19”, not counted as COVID-19 deaths if they are “with COVID-19”. |
