Allergies

Is it just me or are others currently experiencing unusual suffering from allergies? Here is hoping we get a good soaking rain to flush the pollen out of the air. I am getting really tired of being congested with a very scratchy throat.

My eyes have been watering up a storm the past few days, and of course that makes my nose run. I take an antihistamine every night as part of my nightly routine because I'm sensitive to pollen (call it an allergy if you want, it just makes me stuffy/drippy, nothing more). The antihistamine isn't helping though this week.

Same here. Happens every year.

I would never suggest wearing an M95 mask temporarily ever.

These last few weeks the pollen levels have been unusually higher than same time last year, to the point my pulmonologist just put me on prednisone for close to three weeks and ordered chest x-rays. I have asthma and have been getting allergy shots.

Yes, it’s been a REALLY tough few weeks!

Allergies are bad here in Florida and this year with the lack of rain
seems really bad.

When I lived up north my allergy season was April-June.
In Florida it’s pretty much most of the year starting in
February.

So glad we closed our lanai in & added a/c.

Thanks for the responses, I guess it’s not just me. Funny thing is I have never had allergies my whole life until about three years ago, and now they seem to get worse every year. And I get them both up north and in the Villages. In early May I had terrible allergies up north after I put the brush hog on my tractor and knocked down the perfect deer tick environment in our open fields around the house. Right when I finally thought I had the dam allergies under control, I arrived at our Villages home and whatever is currently in the air has taken my allergies to a whole new nasty level I never even comprehended. A sure tell tale sigh of just how crappy I feel, I am taking the day off from swimming laps, which is a very rare occasion. I am getting ready to try anything including doing a rain dance😭. And I can now be spotted driving around in my golf cart, riding solo but wearing a dam face mask to keep from breathing in pollen. Urggggg : (

Some people swear that using a Neti pot helps with their allergies. Then, of course there’s Claritin, Zyrtec, or Allegra.
Then there’s prescription Singulair. Try Benadryl, but don’t take it every night/day. Hope one or more of those helps.

Thanks for the information Bjeanj, I have been taking Allegra and Flonase but they don’t seem to be helping. In fact, the Flonase has broken down my clogged sinuses causing all that congestion to drain down into my throat making the cough worse, not better. I can’t lie down without uncontrollable coughing, making sleep very difficult. This sucks, but at least it just started raining out, so I got that going for me?

Yep, a good hard rain is just the ticket.

Yes, mine went from sinuses, to sore throat, to pneumonia. It started May 7th and I'm still getting over it. It's been rough. I stopped wearing my mask on May 1st and the next week I got this. :(

Allergies

I am a pharmacy technician and deal with a ton of questions every day. My first answer is welcome to FL... Lol Everyone has some sort of reaction when visiting our moving here. Taking singular at night will help as it dampons your inhibitors that triggers allergies. OTC options Allegra, Zertec, etc deals with immediate symptoms which takes 2-3 days to kick in. Also your body adapts to antihistamines so you want to switch off every 4-6 months. Hope this helps

As we get older, we are more susceptible of allergens.

dtennent 06-04-2021 06:37 AM

Consider going to an Allergy specialist. They can do the testing to develop the serums for shots which will eventually help with your allergies. I have had good luck with Dr. Johnson at Allergy and Asthma Care of Florida on 441.
