Renting Your Home? Bedbugs?
 

For those of you who rent your homes, have you directed your caretaker and/or house cleaning service to routinely inspect the beds (sheets, mattresses, near headboards) for bedbugs? I rent a beautiful home in The Villages one month each year, and sure hope my homeowner has done so.

Another thing you can do is buy covers for your mattresses that actually zip up all the way around the mattress. They say that even if your mattress has them you can put these covers on since they won't be able to get out and bite, they will die anyway. I just had them put on some beds at a condo I rent out in Myrtle Beach because people stay there from all over the country and you always have the possibility lf them bringing the bedbugs with them.

From what I understand, if bedbugs are brought into a home, they can end up in the sofa and chair cushions, carpeting, and anywhere else they can hide until nighttime. There doesn't have to be a bed available. Then the little draculas come out to feast after dark.

If someone has bedbugs in their home, the eggs attach themselves to the people's clothes, which is placed in luggage when they travel . . . and the bedbugs spread.

I'm just curious to know if TV homeowners, who rent out their homes for months at a time, have thought what to do about this potential problem.

Renters could unknowingly carry in bedbugs. Heck, any of us could unknowinglhy carry them into our own homes. I saw on the news that they can be carried in on a purse. It's just that with renting out your home numerous times per year, it's probably going to be a more likely occurrence. So, if you're a homeowner, will you be directing your caretaker or house cleaning service to routinely check for an infestation, so that if one occurs, you can get the house treated?

I'm just curious what the homeowners thoughts or plans are (if any) regarding this issue.

I was so concerned about bed bugs that we never stopped at a hotel or motel coming down to TV from New Jersey. I did not like the idea of sleeping in a bed that thousands of other people used before me. I also get the feeling that hotels and motels do not provide adequate protection for this problem in their rented rooms.

This thread gives me the heebie jeebies....

This is sure putting a damper on my thoughts of overnight trips around the area!!!
