New Modems Comcast Doc 3.1
 

Comcast is doing a upgrade to DOC 3.1 on modem and running end of life on a lot of modem routers that are DOC 3.0
People are trying to sell the old modems that are obsolete and cheat people, Just a FYI
This is mainly for people that own there own equipment,.
Also the new DOC 3.1 has alot of units that have bad chips in them that are not recommended to buy.

Comcast doesn't let people know that there customer owned modems are at end of life, They make money by replacing customer owned modems with Comcast Modems that they can control AND CHARGE FOR.
Doc 3.0 is 8 channels up 4 down.
The Doc 3.1 is a new standard of bandwidth for Comcast due to people working from home and a lot of movie streaming.
3.1 can have 10 times more channels of bandwidth.

They have to create more bandwidth without replacing all there infrastructure.
Trust me its technical truth, physics doesn't lie.

Technically everything is physics, but we can narrow it to computer electronics soft and hardware. Using physics as the science is too general.

Unless you are on the "above 200Mbps" tier you can likely still use Docsis 2.0 (two.0) with no problems whatsoever. They still support modems that are over 10 years old for those below 100 Mbps despite what their website lists. I know people up north still using Docsis 2.0 with the 100 Mbps tier and Comcast doesn't give a hoot. They just want you to rent their Gateway modem/router (which I do because it's a LOT cheaper for me) because there is no 1TB Cap and I use close to 2TB a month due to hi-res outside cams. Using my own modem would cost me an extra $50/month for the extra bandwidth.

Just rent the darned thing from XFinity. Any issues you simply exchange it. Gets fried in a storm, exchange it. When it’s time to upgrade, simply exchange it.. Good grief, I’ve never understood why people buy there own.

I would not want to explain why people want there own equipment it would be to detailed.
If you own it, they can't control it and open up your WIFI as a access to your neighbors as a hot spot is one reason. For a techie there is a lot of other reasons.
You keep renting it if it makes you feel better!.
I don't want the Comcast morons all over my equipment and in my home. JMHO
This is why I don't post on this site very often to try to help people out, there has been way to much negativity in posts.

Some folks are going to FTA (free to air antennas) because they are getting sick of Comcast ripping them off with 150 to 200 dollars bills a month.
On top of you very rarely get what you pay for.

Because people disagree with you it's negativity ? It's not possible you might be wrong on some things you might say?

For one thing you can easily turn off the "Public Xfinity" WIFI hotspot in your Comcast modem (How to Turn Xfinity WiFi Home Hotspot On or Off Using Xfinity xFi or My Account - Xfinity Support) and the fact it is YOUR modem dos not mean they don't have control over it (THEY DO since it has an IP address on their network and they have FULL control of it on the WAN side). Having worked 5 years in the NOC of an ISP I can assure you even using your own modem gives you no less privacy. Read your agreements which say it doesn't.. Using their modem saves you what? $180/year? but doesn't do anything else for you other than make you responsible for any compatibility issues with their network.

As far as this crazy pricing they are being charged those folks don't know how to deal with it. I've been a "new subscriber" for over 30 years on every TV/ISP I've ever used, Easy to do.

For all practical purposes FTA disappeared 15-20 years ago with satellite encryption and 9ft dishes. If one likes illegal Firesticks stealing programming that's fine too but just because someone disagrees with what you say is a fact doesn't make it negativity. It's just possible there is another answer or explanation. If you can't take the heat (comments) stay out of the kitchen (web forums). :)

Very frustrating and confusing since all of the approved modems listed have at least some 1 star ratings on Amazon for repeated loss of connectivity with Comcast. I have used the Arris Surfboard SB8200 Docsis 3.1 for 1'+years now without problems. Yet it has a redx on the Comcast list. I think I'm going to just stay the course and hope for the best until the dust settles with the modem companies.

and that's why I am the villages firestick guy. been using the Netgear c7000 cable modem for over 3 years now and not the 1st problem. Can't tell you how many Villagers I have done this for. They are now cable free with the firestick and their own modem. Most save over $100/mth and get over 5,000 channels.

Well you guys don't understand there's power in numbers. I live over four miles away in Pennbrooke Fairways . We have a contract with spectrum and get 300 MBS and full cable stations, for a lot less and it's included in our HOA fee. Unlimited unlimited

Why would you use a Firestick if you have a smart TV? We have streamed for years and gave up Firesticks when we got smart TVs. No cable for us! :a040:

5000 channels is great for channel flippers.

Thank you for that valuable info. I just turned off my public xfinity. It was very simple and easy to do.

Glad it helped one person that Comcast is benefiting from your paid service to enhance there system. Next Alexa is doing the same thing in side walk I think its called.
