Condominium
 

Many years ago, I enjoyed reading the novel, Condominium, by John D. MacDonald, originally published in 1977 and republished in 2014. There was also a television movie. The story has a lot of similarities to the recent condo collapse.

The collapse happened because of structural issues that were not addressed after the 40 year inspection, which is a requirement. Reports of strange sounds coming from the building, exposed and rusted rebars, water accumulating in the pump area, etc. If these problems were ignored, then blame points to the condo association and perhaps the city's building and zoning.
